  1. Thanks for the help and advice. That will keep me busy for a few hours.
  2. Mixture of lamps and LEDs and yes I have a voltmeter. Thanks for your response.
  3. I have an assortment of yard lights, platform lights etc. In the absence of labelled packaging, how can I ascertain the voltage of each lamp so that I know how to wire them? Any help appreciated, especially simple advice!! Thank you.
  4. Yes, I have a muti-meter, tho' not too competent apart from checking connectivity.
  5. Please forgive me for resurrecting this topic..............I am really stuck with this problem and just don't know what to do next. I have tried taking the CDU out of circuit; makes no difference, have tried different PSU; makes no difference, I have looked carefully at the wiring on the point motors [SEEP not H&M] and the wiring on the PECO switches.....no evident wires touching each other. The track is fine but the the points make a very feint noise [and movement] but no throw. Suggestions please, if you have time, as what to try next? Grateful thanks for any ideas leading to the arrest of this problem!! 55f
  6. Took the CDU out of the circuit.......still no joy. I shall have to check the switches?
  7. Thank you DCB, I shall investigate that. I do have difficulty knowing where to start with faults. Thanks again for your time.
  8. Many thanks for the replies. Just to confirm I have not experienced this before and as I said the layout was operating perfectly,,,,,,,well may be not perfect! At switch on yesterday the problem became apparrent. I do use a CDU, the buzz is only when a point is operated. All running track sections work fine apart [of course] from sections supplied by a point which wont move!!! Should I try disconnecting the selection switches in turn? Again thanks for your interest and time.
  9. Finished operating session....all OK. Two days later......none of the points workjust a buzz...... H&M points, peco switches, Peco electrofrog points.....what could go wrong?? Thoughts please.
  10. I am attempting to repair/restore a number of Hornby/Bachmann locos for my Grandson......he breaks 'em and yes you got, I attempt to fix 'em!. I am needing a job lot of mainly bolts for fixing various mechanical parts. I had hoped that I would stumble on such a job lot on Ebay. I hoped in vain! Can anybody point me towards a possible source please? Any help will be very much appreciated.
  11. Thanks Londontram......Not the former problem, haven't got as far as installing the body yet, it appears to be the connecting rods which are the problem [?]. although they haven't been touched.
  12. Having resolved a wiring problem on my grandson's [train wrecker] Bachmann 4f I am 'struggling' to re-assemble it!! The problem is that the motor runs fine but the wheels wont go round! I can see that the problem is the connecting rods. To the best of my knowledge I hadn't made any changes to the wheels but something has obviously gone adrift. Advice please.......glad it isn't a pacific! 55f
  13. I have the same problem and decided that rather than storing models 'unseen' I would invest in a modest storage cabinet where I can have them 'on show'........for me at least! 55f
  14. Thanks again chaps for the useful reminders and information. Today I 'squirted the electronic cleaner' and made some very minor adjustments to the track alignment [and hence the point throw] which solved the problem.......hopefully for some time. It never ceases to surprise me that I still learn new things about model railways after many years of dabbling with the hobby! This Forum is excellent for learning from the mistakes and problems of others. As they say, life is too short to only learn from one's own mistakes!!
  15. A squirt of switch cleaner sounds worth a try, if that fails I shall replace the point motor. On the basis that you can only speak as you find there will be some who love 'em and those who don't. I may be moving to the latter group!! Thanks again for your responses.
