clarkea1
Hopefully someone can solve this for me. I have just been processing a batch of photos taken at Margam Yard last summer. On a rake of MEA wagons I spotted that many of the instanter couplings were painted as show below: Does anyone know why they would be painted white and green? Seems very strange to me! Cheers Alastair

black and decker boy
In construction, we paint \ colour code lifting tackle (chains, Shackles and such) as it is visual proof that they have been visually inspected (they have a 6 monthly test cycle). As the purpose \ task for the couplings is the same, perhaps DBS are using the same approach. Green stripe was the colour for that period of testing (and maybe only at one depot rather than a national policy?)
The Bigbee Line
A bit late to reply, but the white is actually contrasting paint for non destructive testing of the cast steel instanter link.
