RMweb Premium GWRPhil Posted March 7, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) Hi, Great collection of pictures of these beasts. The picture of 'Fearless' in post 2 is actually in Edinburgh Waverley working what looks like one of the peak service Fife Circulars (I work in Leith, and the locals can be a bit touchy about confusing the two places, despite the port having been a part of city for nearly a century!). I haven't heard any of the locals call them anything other than ugly (usually with something Anglo-saxon added in). Milk floats at Mountsorrel - I also, as stated in post 13, seem to remember two of them being there in 2011 just before I moved from the East Midlands to Edinburgh. Hope that's of interest. Again, great photos. Regards, Alex. Hi alex thanks for your post and correction. Apologies for the error. do you have any photos of the 68? RMweb Gold Phatbob Posted March 7, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) I have heard that they have the nickname 'storm troopers' "Storm stroopers" does sum up the way they look. I'll vote for that one. As for the 88s, as I've posted in another thread, what nickname could they possible have other than "Fat Ladies". http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/49816-drs-orders-vossloh-uklights/page-16&do=findComment&comment=1412813 Edited March 7, 2016 by Phatbob
scottishlocos
All Some pics of the Scotrail Class 68007 Valiant as for my namesake these are true Scottishlocos with the livery to match
scottishlocos
To my mind they are better looking in the flesh than pictures. If you stand below track level and look up at them going past they do remind this old guy of a D800 Warship. They also make good guttural noises when being pushed a bit as when they double headed the Daventry Scotland train last year for a few weeks. Being lucky ? Enough to live next to the WCML I can see the Mountsorrel most days if I want to, only need to see Dottie 007 and the latest pair at the moment ! Worth tracking down Toffee Hope you get to see dottie 007 soon hope my pics will do in the meantime we call this livery Spotrail
RMweb Premium Alex TM Posted March 7, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 7, 2016 Hi alex thanks for your post and correction. Apologies for the error. do you have any photos of the 68? Hi again, Please don't apologise (I am not a local). As a Glaswegian I enjoy occasionally offending the locals by using four-letter words such as "tram"; to some it's more offensive than many other common ones .... ! I do have some pics of the local 68s - I'll have a look and see if any are good enough to post. "Stormtroopers" works for me! Like the "SpotRail" livery reference too! Regards, Alex.
toffee
Toffee Hope you get to see dottie 007 soon hope my pics will do in the meantime we call this livery Spotrail Thanks, I did sooner than you might have guessed. 07 has been on Gresty lane for the last two weeks having an exam, well today she produced and worked the Mountsorrel, result ! I think the driver must have thought he was royalty by the end of his shift, cameras everywhere. I thought the nickname for the Edinburgh pair was Dotty 1 and Dotty 2 ? John.

SWT442
Here's a couple of shots I've got of the 68's. They very rarely come South, so trips to the Midlands have been my only way of getting a shot. Seen working the class' second proper mainline run, 68004 "Rapid" pilots 66433 on 4S44 Daventry IRFT to Coatbridge FLT intermodal. The 68 came off at Crewe, with the 66 carrying on to Scotland. 30.05.2014 Making a din, 68003 "Astute" gets the loaded 6U77 Mountsorrel to Crewe ballast run underway at Catholme. 29.05.2015 Literally 5 minutes after 68003 had passed, Chiltern liveried 68012 rolled through Catholme working 6Z96 Crewe to Toton engineers. 29.05.2015 Andy.
