Overhead EMU Photos

As we have a third-rail thread up and running, we really should also have an overhead thread. I don't have many digital overhead electric pictures, but would love to see what the members here can share.

To get the thread going, here is 378214 at Highbury and Islington back in June 2015.

Thought I'd resurrect this, after posting some of my photos on the Third rail EMU thread. Here are the preserved class  309 units at the old Coventry Railway centre by the airport.

ISTR that you could go inside the (gutted) interior of one of these.

There was also a class 312. It's a shame that these units have all been scattered around the country, but at least they survive100_2822.jpg.a027afab838998d2520c71686f6191b6.jpg

The last one is a bit of a mystery to me. It was taken on a trip to Doncaster in 1987 (to visit the signal box with the Grantham railway society), but I didn't note the number and I've no idea what it's doing there. Testing the new OHLE?

You didn't see such things as suburban EMUs on the ECML at this time, which is why I must have taken a photo.

How different this scene is! Many fond memories of real trains before the multiple unit and 66 take over. Even evidence of the pneumatic s&c.

Seeing the EMU football specials reminds me of an idea I had recently for a small fleet of C.321s retained just for football (or other "event") specials.  They're still reliable, plenty of spares available (probably from scrapping some of them) and must have a decent RA and driver knowledge?

Are we getting into current generation emus like Javelins, 700s, and 800s - or are they bi-modes so they don't count?

Are bi-modes not running under the wire also acceptable? Being south of London Thameslink trains run with their pants down.

I see you managed to get the 'NS' liveried 321 in that last one too.

Yes, they had conveniently parked it there the weekend of the EUR 150 Celebrations, though the photo I took of it isn't exactly brilliant quality (and it hasn't scanned well either)...

A couple of Network SouthEast class 319s from around 1989, the year after the full Thameslink service began.
