This is a great layout, some fantastic attention to detail.

I will follow with interest.

Cheers, George.

Thanks, George.

Latest addition to the layout - This is "Snowball" exploring the yard...

The postings have caught up with me now!  I need to do some modelling, instead of being on RMweb 24/7 (Isn't that right Shaun, Matt & Paul) or I won't have anything new to post!

POINT WEATHERING

Yesterday I blended in the 'greased' points with Matt's airbrushing and I think they've come out OK

This is the look I'm going for

SAFETY BARRIERS

Today I've been finishing off the safety barriers I started ages ago, but have been gathering dust on my workbench ever since.  I want them to look like these at photgraphed at Doncaster...

I have used a kit by Ten Commandments...

post-31973-0-19729100-1500478919_thumb.jpg

but instead of using the included feet, I made stands by drilling two small holes in the top of a piece of plastic section using a pin-vice to mount the barriers on.  The stands were painted black and left to dry.  Once dry, the barriers were assembled in pairs so they could be painted.

The finished barriers on the layout, between the depot and the head shunt.

Today Paul (RMweb: Perfect Paul) visited with a new yet another class 60. :declare:   It needed a test run so I temporarily fitted a decoder and we gave it a run up and down the layout along with a few new wagons of his (hence the tension lock couplings in the photos)  The conclusion is... it's not a bad loco at all and just needs the wheels cleaning and a drop of oil and it's good to go!

Here are a couple of photos taken while Paul was driving  :help:

Whilst testing my latest purchase on Simon's exquisite New layout today, a valuable lesson was learned :

Do NOT try to operate a new loco, on a strange track that belongs to somebody else and continue talking at the same time, whilst also keeping your finger on the "increase speed" button.

The result was far from "Perfect" and not very pleasant.

#Must do better !!!

That's a nice loco, I have one as well. I still think the Hornby 60 is top of the tree even ten years or so after it was first produced

Yep, I have to agree, the class 60 is an awesome model!

Today I've been determined to finish another project I started ages ago - a Ten Commandments Loco Inspection Platform kit

I started it as soon as I got it but, for several months, it has remained at this stage...

The inspection platform sure looks like a very intricate kit. Looking Good, even in it's primed state.

How many components are there in the full kit ?

Not sure, over 30 :dontknow:   It felt like a LOT more!

Just stumbled upon this thread - what a fantastic layout you have built, Simon. Right up my street! You have a great eye for detail. I shall be returning for inspiration and ideas to borrow!

Many thanks for sharing

Cheers Sam

I've been following your layout, I particularly like the MXAs.  I'm currently have a go repainting a Bachmann VGA into one of the RBAs I saw at Bescot.  Pictures will follow if it doesn't look rubbish :scratchhead:  (Transfers are on order from Realtec Models)

Nice layout good work.

Hi Pete, if the platform is too big, it's positioning on the layout won't particularly show it, as any locos that do travel past it will be in front of it so it won't be noticed.  I will bear it in mind for the future though!

Cheers

WHEEL-SET DELIVERY UPDATE

I've been back at work this week after a week off!  It doesn't half get in the way of modelling progress!

Having put it off for far too long, like a few other jobs on here I have recently completed, I thought it was about time I sorted the lighting on the wheel-set trailer.  The tractor unit headlights were fitted months ago and it was glued to the layout.  In hindsight I wish I'd left it loose, like the trailer, so I could have fitted the red lights on the back of that as well!

On a previous vehicle I had a go fitting the 'orange' side marker lights using orange SMDs with red SMDs on the rear.  Once they were fitted the difference between the colours wasn't noticable enough so I needed to rethink how to do it on here...

I started by fitted the red SMDs on the back of the trailer and then used white SMDs for the side markers

1858867014_80-trailerlights.jpg.a5b08aaa8ae5d34a2e4e34aa460681e8.jpg

Once tested, the white lights were painted with several coats of Humbrol 1322 Clear Colour, which is a clear orange paint, until the desired effect was achieved

Here's my compulsory night shot...
