CazRail
This is where i will post my projects. Firstly is the biggest loco project ive undertaken so far. Changing a Vitrains 37/0 from centre head-code to split head-code... Loco in primer... Then in EWS red... The loco will be finished as 37057 Viking in EW&S livery. I plan to make two more to the guises of EW&S 37114 and Colas Rail Freight 37099. As with my other two class 37 project, this loco will be fitted with Laserglase windows which vastly improve the ViTrains windscreens. CazRail
Looks good ! Is that a cut and shut ? Cheers, Rob. Its quite simply poping off the original Vi nose and putting on the cast Lima one. Just a quick progress update as im writing, both noses have had holes drilled for lights. 2mm holes for marker and head light which will accomodate 2mm tower LEDs, then smaller holes for the d-lights. CazRail
An update... 37057 has had one nose fitted. Its also been fitted with grab irons and its LEDs dry-fitted. Tail lights are provided via the ViTrains light bar. And finally, a comparison with the only other EWS 37/0 in the fleet 37174... Thanks for looking.
CazRail
With both noses on, I decided to test-fit it all to a chassis... Poor photo, but hopefully shows what ive managed to do. It's a snug fit as the Molliput needs to be thicker for strength. Needs now LEDs, decals and glazing.

CazRail
Progress report... The loco will go for a gloss coat in the next couple of days, so the goodies that will be under the tree can be aplied. The only components missing now are laserglase, which is difficult to get hold of at the moment seems to be out if stock, and a chassis for it. Might buy a complete loco, the body of which will make up the next project, 37099. I'd luke to take this opportunity now to wish everyone a Nadolig Llawen/Merry Christmas!
CazRail
Got on this with this loco today... Currently waiting for the varnish to dry, then on with fitting it out and onto some chassis...
CazRail
Modified a Bachmann BDA into a BNA. Not accurate, as the bed would need to come off etc, but im happy with it...
CazRail
Back to the 37s, and Ive embarked on a project to weather a few of them. Made a start on 37405, possibly my favourite 37. Only got as far as applying some sleeper grime, but come payday, Ill have a few more tins of paints ordered. Incidently this is my first attempt of weathering with an airbrush. Only a subtle dusting so far, needs some more. Im also thinking of adding the flaked off paint using light grey paints. This will be very using when 37417 turns up to the work bench!
CazRail
Finished and fully assembled, 37405 and 37417 have become the first two locos I've weathered with an airbrush. Both locos feature patches of paint which are missing. Personally very happy with how they've turned out, especially it being my first airbrush weathering projects. EWS 47773 and RfD 47306 will be next. Also planning my first re-spray using an airbrush, and will be a Freightliner green 47, which will end up weathered also.
CazRail
Now weathered my ViTrains EWS 47773. As it was used regularly on passenger and mail trains, it was a loco that was kept relatively clean, due to regularly passing through coach washing plants. Paints used was weathered black, frame dirt with some oily steel dry-brushed on various parts of the bogies and underframe to highlight different components.
CazRail
Nothing too exciting this week, had a new arrival in the shape of 56003 in Loadhaul livery. It needed some TLC in that it was a bit of a squeaky runner, with associated jerky running. Remedy was to take the worm gears out, clean them up, then lubrucate the little square bearings at both ends. Now a smooth runner. Same was also some to my colas 56087. Both also had their top front handrails modified to match the real things, by deleting the middle span above the headlights.
CazRail
Not a recent job, but a loco which I tonight decided to give a little run out on my Anglesey Central layout. Bachmann's 08907 in the DB 'pink' colours, which I thought suited the locos well. Around a year ago I decided to name it after my daughter using custom nameplates from Narrow Planet. A very good service from them, too.
CazRail
Latest little project a fairly straightforward one. Updating Hornby's 67013. A simple de-brand, clean, gloss, decal, matt varnish. From this... ...to this... ...to this.
CazRail
Next job will be to convert my HSTs to the new Hunt Coupling magnetic coupling units. First up will be my Swallow and Midland Mainline rakes, followed by my VTEC set which will need both Hornby clip style ones and NEM styles. My VWC set has been converted to Kadees, so for the time being will stay like that.

CazRail
Approaching the mid-way point of re-spraying this Hornby class 153 into TfW livery. Does anyone know where there may be decals available? If not I'll make my own.

Got a bit more done today, coming along now. A bit of grey for the lower body side and roof now, then a few touch-ups. This is my first airbrush re-spray so Im quite pleased with what Ive come up with.
CazRail
And then this morning All the main colours on now, just touching up a few areas and paint the window surrounds and light clusters black. Looks like Ill need to create my own transfers for this one, so Ill include numbers for 153s, 158s and 170s, as well as speculative ones for 150s.
