RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 15, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 15, 2022 As usual I’ve filled gaps you’ll never see once painted and covered in grass 🥴 I’m going to use a Ratio retaining wall but I do need to cut the hight down so I’ll just cut off the bottom three rows of ‘stone’

It'd be worth a quick cardboard mock-up to check visual impact though. Great progress, lovely to see! 1
Winslow Boy
Agree that the wriggly shed is a good idea but, yes there's always a but, you have to ask yourself how much cargo would there be. If it's a lot then yes a shed would make sense. If however it's just odds and sods then I think Robs suggestion of the crane would be better. At the end of day Chris it's your layout. I do know one thing though that whichever you choose it will be very good.
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 15, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 15, 2022 Taking off the bottom three rows has done the trick…. ….I’m wondering if some hand railing along the top of the retaining wall would be feasible? 8

My preference of wriggly tin is well known and documented... What about - An extension with a hoist beam inside said building that extends over the nearest siding and really tie things together as in this former feed store on the G&KER? 1 1
MrWolf
There's a few original windows left. I was thinking of a similar arrangement over the canal, but perhaps instead of stilts a slightly pyramid shaped stone base jutting out of the embankment to suggest that a loading facility had been there since before the railway (such as a stone or coal drop) which has been rebuilt once the railway arrived? 2 1
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 16, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 16, 2022 I’ve made a little progress…. ….it’s going to take a while to clean up all the bits of polystyrene 15
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 16, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 16, 2022 (edited) I wanted to crack on so I decided not to do another cutting but I might still look at some kind of canal to railway loading…. ….it looks as rough as a badger’s bum because it’s only the first layer of filler, once it’s gone off I’ll sand it and apply another skim to refine the contours I normally use a quick dry filler but I’ve run out so I’ve had to resort to using a standard filler that needs 24hr before I can do anything with it Edited July 16, 2022 by chuffinghell 15

MrWolf
It certainly is neat, and shows how canals became known as "The Cut" in some parts of the country. Manmade landscape, just like the railway. 3 1
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted July 17, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 17, 2022 The railway is really becoming part of the landscape now. Love it. 4
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 17, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 17, 2022 After doing the second skim of filler I started messing about with cardboard again as I needed a template to make the wing walls, I’m also thinking of having granite sets in this area I think I could have done a better job with the dumb barge though 🤣
MrWolf
Setts would be a good idea. I used Wills' SSMP204 Granite setts for my goods yard in front of the shed. They look very much like those outside our front door. Dumb barge? I'm sure that there's an ex wife joke in there somewhere.... 1

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 17, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 17, 2022 Looks much neater after the second skim of filler…… …..why I’m daft enough to make something look neat that’s only going to get covered in grass is a mystery, no cure for stupid 9
