DMU Photography - Away from the Three-Quarter View

Recommended Posts

I'm very happy to see them Peter as the landscape they are in (night-time) is unusual and they aren't three-quarter views taken at a the platform ends.  There's been some lovely entries to this thread lately, keep it up everyone.

Looking towards Heckington, church to the right, windmill just visible on the left. I usually found the sails were never pointing in the right direction for a good shot anyway....

Not sure if this is 'landscape' but plenty of atmosphere I think.

Cravens DMUs - cant you just feel the doors/windows/drop lights/seats/luggage racks/bodyside paneling/floor/etc all resonating!

My 'fondest' memories were on the short ride from Kings Cross to Finsbury Park which gave the full Cravens experience in only a few minutes, accelerating and vibrating up through Gas Works Tunnel , especially in the winter with the heaters blasting out more exhaust fumes than hot air, was a sensory experience never to be forgotten!

I  thought I'd keep the ironwork of the bridge in the photo, as it's characteristic of many ex-GW lines. This example dating from 1899 from a firm in Chepstow.

We're at Westbury again last Friday, as a Cardiff to Portsmouth train arrives. Class 166s in FGW Blue are in a minority nowadays. The power signalbox is the building to the right in the shot.

I prefer the colour version in this circumstance. The fgw blue is a good colour scheme. If it was the new GWR green i think that would be a much closer call for me.

I really like both, but I think the colour version just takes it for me too.

I'm a fan of both the FGW Blue & GWR Green liveries.

If the unit had been in Green, I reckon I would have preferred the Black & White version, as the diagonal bodyside stripe, and lack of such prominent bodyside writing, would have looked classier than the Black & White version of the Blue livery !!

Either way, great photo !!

Cheers,

Phil.

Well it's the B&W one for me Peter, but not just for the attractive contrast (which helps bring out the texture in the rivetted girder) but the additional cropping has removed the ugly cabinets surrounded by weeds from the right of the shot).
