I also think 057 looked great in blue syp livery i always thought it was a pity that br did not adopt this livery as standard, enjoyed some great thrashy haulage at a diesel gala at the nnr behind 057 in this livery hauling a clss 117 dmu ,back in 1986 she was the very last 25 i saw in br service got a glimpse of her in the cce yard atBury St Edmunds whilst on board the European boat train later on at peterborough she came through heading north on the March breakdown crane, greatdays!

Click on the image (it’s from Flickr); the caption says the train’s on its way to the Eastern Region.

When I were a lad 1E21 was the up 'Cornishman' Penzance - Leeds (I think). But no doubt there were other 1E21s......

The service is mentioned in the second of the four comments on the photo: '1E21 was the 14.28 Llandudno Town - Sheffield service.'

NEWCASTLE - EMPTY STOCK

I must admit a double take there! A great photo.....real things that look like a model....something about the light on the loco. Class 25, LMS BG with a DMU tacked on. You sure it's not a model?!

Regards

Spot on ! It does look like a model…. A Bachmann 32-441 only problem is it’s a 24 not a 25. Sorry chaps, the gremlins must have got at the Flickr caption!

GARSDALE ENGINEERS

Wow, what a view!

And then immediately noticed the loco's data panel is missing. Funny how its absence smacks one in the face on banger blue locos in particular. Or maybe it's just me......🤪!?

Wonder if someone on here can help? I've seen a photo of 25294 in GFYP TOPS no somewhere on the Internet,  but can't find it now. The loco is in a station, possibly Brum New St, in about 1975. Tried flickr & Google search, come up with a couple of 294 in GFYP TOPS, but not the one I'm looking for.

Can anyone help please?

D5289 at Sutton Bonington 1965 by David Flitcroft

D5289 at Sutton Bonington

With the utmost respect, that cannot be D5289.

The class 25s were in several series

D5151-D5175 became 25001-25025 - 25/0 class 24 bodyshell - side filters

D5176-D5193 became 25026-25043 - 25/1 - side filters gangway doors steam boiler *

D5194-D5232 became 25044-25082 - 25/2 - side filters gangway doors steam boiler

D5233-D5237 became 25083-25087 - 25/2 - cantrail air filters and steam boiler

D5238-D5299 became 25088-25149 - 25/2 - cantrail air filters

D7500-D7567 became.25150-25217 - 25/2 - cantrail air filters

D7568-D7597 became 25218-25247 - 25/2 - side filters gangway doors steam boiler

D7598-D7677 became 25248-25327 - 25/3 - cantrail air filters

* except 25029-25032 which were not built with boilers

I refer here to ATH Taylers book Sulzer types 2 and 3 which is the only tect I have seen referring to  25044-25082 as 25/2 which he quotes as design code25.2cX. Strangely, he records the batch 25026-25043 as a mix of /1 and /2.

All references I have seen apart from Tayler refer to 25026-25082 as 25/1, 25083-25247 as 25/2 and 25248 onwards as 25/3.

Photo by Phil Lindsey : 25 274 and 25 261 at Croft in Leicestershire, Sunday 30th January 1977...

Extraordinarily high mounted number and logo on 25 261 - a nice one to model?! As was often the case the number looks to have been raised (and thus not in accordance with the ‘in line with the space between the lines in the logo’ directive, to accommodate a data panel).

I recall Croft being announced at BNS as part of the stopping DMU service (often Cravens operated) from Birmingham to Leicester - followed by Narborough - if you travelled in one of the driving cars you stood a good chance of having dental fillings shaken loose by the end of the journey 🤣
