Gibbo675
Hi Folks, I've been enjoying this thread in the time that it has been going and should I find my old photos I'll scan and post them. However there was a post a few pages back that mentioned the colour of the roofs being a shade of greyish-beige representing the translucent glass fibre roofs. In the following link, post 38, there are four class 25's shewing their roof colours, one of which is ex works and is indeed a greyish beige. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/56107-breakdown-traincrane/page-2 I am of an age that when Hornby first released a blue class 47 I was confused that it had a blue roof. the reason was because all of the ones I had ever seen were black with soot form the exhaust ! RMweb Premium iands Posted January 21, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 21, 2019 A motley ensemble! Any idea what the writing below the cab window said? Was it "official" or the scribblings of a "gricer" perhaps?

NINJA
Tried under the magnifying glass but just cannot make it out, it does seem more official than graffiti.
long island jack
Any idea what the writing below the cab window said? Was it "official" or the scribblings of a "gricer" perhaps? Could be an early health and safety notice, as it was being transferred to Glasgow works for asbestos removal by MC metal processing, it was then moved by road to Bo'ness. RMweb Premium keefer Posted January 21, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 21, 2019 A motley ensemble! Interesting little coach there - ex-horsebox with 2 large windows and a door in place of the loading doors?
Fat Controller
Interesting little coach there - ex-horsebox with 2 large windows and a door in place of the loading doors? Boiler van for steam heating, I believe; they used to get stabled at places like Oxford to warm the stock. Some were based on retired horseboxes, others on the chassis of Loco Coal wagons. RMweb Premium keefer Posted January 21, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 21, 2019 Ah right enough, thanks for that. I've seen plenty of the scratch built ones and forgot about the ex-HB ones. Seeing the large saloon windows I thought it might've been a mess coach or similar.
eastwestdivide
Interesting little coach there - ex-horsebox with 2 large windows and a door in place of the loading doors? Is it this one - DE 321107? http://www.departmentals.com/photo/321107 Same livery, listed as CE staff van, previously horse box E96305 it says. 101
Is it this one - DE 321107? http://www.departmentals.com/photo/321107 Same livery, listed as CE staff van, previously horse box E96305 it says. Also at https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/lnerdepartmentalcoach/h39B145DB#h39b145db It appears to be the same vehicle with the same graffiti in Paul B' s picture. Can't ever remember seeing this, from what can be seen of the internal layout it appears to be a mess van, but I wonder what it was initially converted for? The windows in the ends are strange just for a mess van it's almost like a small inspection saloon and the wasp striping suggests it was propelled at times. Also I wonder what it's second life was after the work being done in Paul's picture. Has it survived? It would seem ideal for a preserved railway. Described as an inspection saloon here https://railphotoprints.uk/p539499575/h10E5B9C8 Edited January 22, 2019 by
