What year were these Vintage Classics' kits first released James.

On the box it states that the moulds date from 1967, as does the box art.

It's common knowledge that they are old toolings, hence why Airfix state when the molds date from on the box. So hence the Vintage Classics branding and that was introduced last year ;)

More work has been done on the coaling stage over the last couple of days..

The windows have been fitted, the white interior given an over-spray of black wash and the stairs have been painted.

I also gave the exterior a light over spray as well.

While this was dry in the spray booth, I busied myself making the coal carts - which was time consuming with them being quite small!

I fitted the tank roof, while the coal carts were in paint - then realized I shouldn't of till I put the carts first :banghead:

Managed to get the carts in this morning - once the glue's dried I'll mask up to spray the roof.

I've also managed to squeeze in a bit of minor filling work on the Mk.1 Male tank.

And another kit arrived for my stash ;)

More updates to come later today..

More work on the coaling stage..

After the epoxy had dried - I cleaned up the solder (a bit) and removed the railings where the ladder will be situated.

Worth noting I have 2 Soldering Irons, one that's nearly 35 years old and a cheap eBay purchased variable temperature one - I bought the 35 year old one out of retirement for the soldering*

Railings painted.

I'll get the ladder dry fitted tomorrow, before weathering the outside..

And spoilers..

A nice big update today, which I'll split into several parts..

First up is the Coaling stage. Friday's work consisted of forming/fitting and painting the ladder support bracket. Plus trimming the ladder to length and ensuring it was a snug fit - this like stair case will be glued in place, once the coaling stage is fitted to the layout.

Saturday's work consisted painting the ladder & weathering the whole thing..

The sharp eyed among you, may spot another building under construction in the background ;)

Part 2 of the update...

A tweaked Star Class - 4053 Alexandra, so what's tweaked you may ask?

The tweaks are the Castle type outside steam pipes and the cabside hand rails (a front screw link coupling and a correct number of spokes on the front bogie)

Finally part 3 of the update..

The Timber Tracks 2 road Engine shed..

.. the instructions are confusing - mainly down to the fact they are a cut and paste* of the O gauge version!

engineShed_02.jpg.af2c2fb960746a7c1b857b604b912dd6.jpg

*in the instructions it say's look for the approx. 130 x 20 mm pillars - they are considerably smaller!

engineShed_04.jpg.6a9951d703274c5da4000087dc305ca6.jpg

It hasn't gone together as easily as the Coaling Stage though**

** The rig beam &  roof trusses needed some fettling!

Meanwhile, the Timber Tracks Engine shed goes vertical...

... only to ensure the end veneers  are glued properly of course ;)

engineShed_08.jpg.9361dedfb029b941787ab1ee7c28b1f5.jpg

Fitting the window frames - one side complete..

engineShed_09.jpg.1d96ad619d3948dbc7363a52f6a59998.jpg

All the window frames in place - job done for now, back to loco's and rolling stock for now..

engineShed_10.jpg.591739f08e670298b3ab713ed3e641ed.jpg

.. well almost, another purchase for HMCS Snowberry arrived...

snowberry_19.jpg.400238b04362182fc3d459a4d2da06e8.jpg

290 + parts - I must be insane :jester:

After a few days doing my afternoon/evening job, I had a couple of packages to open..

IMG_7114.jpg.364a81dbc421ae332650301f3104be9f.jpg

First 1/32nd Scale kit in quite a while and come with the captured markings for the one test flown by a certain Eric 'Winkle' Brown.

Another British Monarch donor, so another Castle type outside steampipe Star me thinks ;)

And on my first day off yesterday, I managed to build a Monster...

.. that's the Ian Kirk one ;)

monster_inWorks_01.jpg.b54e234143fbba557138fdeeef441151.jpg

Is that the one that used to hang from the roof in the Science Museum?

No it isn't, the one he flew* currently resides at the National Museum of Flight (East Fortune Airfield, East Lothian).

*Only Allied Pilot to fly the Komet on a powered test flight - they did have habit of exploding on landing.

More progress has been made in between the day job...

Glazing added, I made my own flush glaze - quite time consuming!

monster_inWorks_02.jpg.740a2196e2a30631dc8157722a266d70.jpg

Window bars fitted (and ballast epoxied in)

monster_inWorks_03.jpg.385cfb696a65d47b0d7e2ec7a08869d3.jpg

Roof fitted, rubbed down, filled were needed, rubbed down again, dust all washed off, dried and finally windows masked up and ready for some paint!

There's an account of both the powered flight and later towed unpowered flights in ME163s in Eric Brown's autobiography "Wings on my Sleeve", chapter 9.  The way he managed to arrange the powered flight on his own initiative is remarkable, but he was a remarkable man.

There's an ME163 at RAF Cosford, one of the ones captured just after the war.

I've seen a couple of them, but Eric's story of how he 'persuaded' the Germans to let him go up on a powered flight was remarkable. Plus saying it was the safest of the rocket powered planes, takes some b@lls!!!!

This has made me read the book again.  b@lls is certainly what Eric Brown had, picking one incident at random, testing a naval catapult (post war) with an Avenger resulted in the engine cutting out and the wings folding back. Brown's comment was "it was a nasty sight from the cockpit."

That sounds about right!
