More images on the Airscale website...

What I find astonishing is the availability of an aftermarket item before the Airfix kit was out. Someone must have had inside knowledge.:o:read:

I believe they were given an assembled test shot of the cockpit to work with ;)

Meanwhile in the railway world...

Turntable finished for now - final weathering will be done once it's in place on my client's layout..

While I'm waiting for a new set* of HMRS Pressfix Sheet 2 LMS coach and loco lettering to renumber 8 coaches.

In between weathering the other 6 (which didn't need renumbering) - I spent a few hours on the Tiffy.

The nickel  silver etchings look very impressive, but I'm now wondering if the cockpit instrument panels would have actually been in bare metal on a full sized aircraft.  In a factory while being manufactured,  perhaps, but pics or preserved aircraft seem to have black painted panels?  There's usually an exception I guess. :-)

There's a very short review of the Hellcat kit here, http://finescale.com/videos/new-product-rundown/2019/06/new-product-rundown-161-video-review-moebius-kelvin?utm_source=Yesmail&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=News0_FSM_190626_00000

at the very end of the clip, which does show all the sprues.

Looking at the instructions, the colour call out for the instrument panel is black on the Hellcat - Airscale's instructions call for it to be painted black too. They did the photo's for show, however they have got a panel wrong ;)

Um I guess if the panels are going to be painted black anyway then might as well use the original plastic parts...

Just that the bare metal looked impressive!

I've got Airscale decals for 4 1/24th scale kits in my stash - I'm waiting to see what the etch cockpit looks like all painted up, before I consider purchasing it ;)

That Fairey Seafox is a bit of a rarity!  Personally think Matchbox were well moulded when they came out.  And some still going - the corvette was innovative for being such a large kit. Got that one, and also working on 1:32 Spitfire mk24 which came in a Revell box.  (Which is basic compared to what can be produced now, ie Hellcat). Haven't started the 1:32 Lysander yet. So - be interesting to see how the seafox comes out.

The Seafox is quite rare - it's only be released once by Revell, it's a bit of bogie kit for me - as both previous ones I've built have ended up in the bin in failure, with modern glues & tools it should go together ok (hopefully). This one is getting aftermarket decals - as the originals are u/s.

I may well have a day or two on the Corvette either this week or next- if all goes well. Getting the decking all removed (where need), the filling all done & rubbed down & possibly primed.

I was feeling a bit coached out this morning, I decided to get on with the Typhoon - oh boy the kits got more fit problems (a 1/16th inch gap the starboard wing root), so back in the box she went.

So I decided to make a start on the Eduard Tempest V - fortunately this kit is an absolute beauty to build. Taking a slight departure from the instructions, I started on the radiator assembly..

I used the fuselage halves to ensure the assembly lined up properly.

I added a few detail parts to the fuselage and then braved the hot house of the paintshop...

Once down from the paintshop I did the detail painting to the radiator assembly and fitted the front grill (correct for the variant I'm doing)

That's most of page 5 of the instructions done (apart from fitting the cockpit & gluing the sides together)

Good to see someone else whose reading of instructions is like Eric Morecambe’s piano playing, “all the right notes but not necessarily in the right place” :laugh_mini:

Funny you should mention Eric - my late father got mistaken for him, more than once :jester:

Meanwhile you'll be pleased to hear I went back to the beginning to start the cockpit...

.. okay after gluing the radiator assembly in place in the fuselage ;)

"Funny you should mention your father being mistaken for Eric Morecambe because I've often been mistaken too",

"For Eric Morecambe?"

"No, I've just often been mistaken".

(apologies to Spike Milligan).

That tempest does look rather ace...

I've left off most of the photo-etch, as most of it won't be seen in a very dark cockpit..
