Popular Post Trev52A
I understand that 91108 was the first of the Class 91s to be withdrawn, after working its final turn yesterday (22nd July 2019) - the 16.30 Edinburgh to Kings Cross, prior to the introduction of 'Azuma' trains from London to Newcastle and beyond from next month. I have searched this site but can't seem to find a dedicated thread covering these locos which have been the mainstay of the ECML for thirty years. How about some photos showing their livery changes etc, over this period of time? Anyway, here's 91108 leaving Newcastle yesterday on its final run, alongside 43311 waiting to depart for Aberdeen. A few seconds earlier the platform was filled with photographers and enthusiasts, most of whom climbed aboard the train for their last chance of a run behind this loco. (Or should that be 'in front of', since it was at the rear of the train!) RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted July 23, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 23, 2019 The LNER FB site had this on from Sunday and yesterday with times. Loads of people commenting and most not enthusiasts either. Thanks for the photo. Phil

Both will be outlived by the 313 ECML trains are clearly built to last - most of the 91s will probably survive beyond the racecourse. 1 2

A new type of snobbishness will emerge - does your station have wires?

Only works if the wind is not from the west. Yo. P 1
admiles
They might have washed the poor thing for it's last run. Then I suppose that would be a waste of money.

I'd gladly defer to superior knowledge, but I'm not so sure about robbing for spares. If they haven't had to Christmas Tree any before now it kinda suggests there's a large enough spares pool already. Are any currently being shopped (or stripped)? C6T. it does seem daft though that some locomotives were out of service having given up parts to keep other's running only for them all to be fixed prior to the commencement of withdrawal. Class 90s have been on lease from DB as well to make up the shortfall which is another cost that seems daft if at the very end you have to buy the parts that you're short of. At least with the 55s BR knew there was no future and had plenty of 47s to use in lieu of and shortfall on the 55 front.
black and decker boy
Talk is of class 90 on the Blackpool’s as top speed on WCML without tilt is 110mph and 90s have better acceleration than 91s timing runs done recently on ECML apparently

Two of mine from 1993, still in original livery: 91004 'The Red Arrows' heading north on 21st March 1993 91022 heading 'tender-first' with another northbound train on 4th July 1993 Trevor 19
