East Coast, oh dear....

Thats actually NatEx livery, with an East Coast sticker. The full East Coast livery was a sort of silvery grey with a light purple stripe. Not much better than above though.

When Virgin took over they slapped a diagonal red patch over the East Coast livery. That was really bad.

I’ve decided to try and make a complete list of liveries that the class 91s have worn. In approx chronological order.

Intercity Swallow

GNER blue with gold letters

GNER blue with white NatEx stripe

NatEx grey and white

NatEx grey and white with an East Coast sticker

GNER blue with white stripe and East Coast sticker

East Coast silvery grey

East Coast purple and grey Flying Scotsman livery

East Coast 91110 Lest We Forget

East Coast 91111 For the Fallen

East Coast 91125 blue Sky 1 HD livery

East Coast silvery grey with diagonal red block and Virgin logo

Virgin red and white

Virgin red and white with Saltire design Flying Scotsman livery

Red and white with LNER lettering

Red and white with LNER lettering and #GetNorth2018 lurid stripes

I kind of thought I’d like to model one in every livery, but that’s 16 different liveries, so quite a challenge.

Yes, that's the NatEx livery re-branded as East Coast.

Incidentally, 91111 was the only vehicle in the 225 fleet to ever receive the full NatEx livery, the other 91s, and all the Mk4s inc DVTs remained in GNER with white NX stripe until going into East Coast silver / grey. So it's current livery's the second time this loco's had a unique livery. It also btw, still carries it's mouse, from being originally named Terence Cuneo in IC days.

Also, there were two versions of the East Coast livery, the first sets done had a very distinctively silver shade, said to be inspired by the LNER's (the original one) 'Silver Jubilee' train.

Later they were that much duller grey shade.

Also

GNER blue with silver letters

VTEC red/white with white instead of grey cab roof (to help the cab air-con work - yes, seriously)

91110 / 91111 memorial liveries re-branded Virgin then LNER

91114, Durham Cathedral, as in the link above EC grey with the train crossing Durham Viaduct graphic, and then in VTEC and now LNER red/white with Durham Cathedral graphics and the former Dean's name on the cabsides.

And the trainbow one

Not sure there wasn't other special/promotional ones too

There is a man who has logged over 9 million miles of Class 91 haulage, when the time arrives  for the final ECML run of the last 91, I think he deserves VIP treatment with a cab ride for the trip

You forgot GNER blue with white letters and 91107 in James Bond “Skyfall” promotional livery, complete with Mk IV set.

9 million???? Taking entry to service in 1989, that amounts to over 800 miles a day, every single day, since then.

I‘m taking that one with a pinch of salt...

I think - if he does indeed exist - he needs compassion and possibly scientific evaluation.

In 2015, before being named ‘Intercity 50’, 91128 carried a one off Christmas livery and was a “Claus 91”. There was also a DVT done the same, as well as a driving car on a Pendolino, which they called a “Penguilino”

91108 sat in Platform 2 at Doncaster yesterday (24.7.19), presumably waiting it's turn to enter the works for the last time. 91118 The Fusiliers leaves Platform 3a.

They decided to keep it as an emergency 'Thunderbird' during the heat of Thursday (today).

Thanks for all the replies. Updated list

Intercity Swallow

GNER blue with white letters

GNER blue with gold letters

GNER blue with white NatEx stripe

NatEx grey and white

NatEx grey and white with an East Coast sticker

GNER blue with white stripe and East Coast sticker

East Coast silver

East Coast grey

91101 East Coast purple and grey Flying Scotsman livery (with matching DVT)

East Coast 91107 Skyfall 007 promotional livery (with matching Mk4 set and DVT)

91110 Lest We Forget - initially East coast, then rebranded to Virgin, then LNER.

91111 For the Fallen - initially East coast, then rebranded to Virgin, then LNER.

91114 East Coast Durham Cathedral with Lindisfarne Gospels Durham livery.

91125 blue Sky 1 HD promotional livery (with matching Mk4 set and DVT)

East Coast silvery grey with diagonal red block and Virgin logo

Virgin red and white

Virgin red and white with white cab roof.

91101 Flying Scotsman Virgin red and white with Saltire design, rebranded to LNER.

91106 Virgin Red and white with #GetNorth2018 lurid stripes, rebranded to LNER

91103 #trainbow with pride month hearts and embellishments

91114 Virgin Durham Cathedral with Durham Cathedral livery, rebranded to LNER

91128 Claus 91 in Virgin Christmas livery (with matching DVT)

91132 Time to Change Pledge (mental health discrimination) Virgin red/white, rebranded to LNER

Red and white with LNER lettering

91121 LNER #trainbow with rainbow NE

So I make that 34 liveries (including all rebrandings). Not bad for a fleet of 31 only running in one location.

Found another;

91132 Time to Change Pledge (mental health discrimination) Virgin red/white, rebranded to LNER

Dont think trainbow was 107, as think that one's still named Skyfall.

Also 91101 Virgin/Saltaire, and 'trainbow' rebranded to LNER

So, if we count the special livery rebrandings, as well as the standard livery ones, that manages to get us to more liverys than locos!

34, or is there any more still missing?

91103 was the Virgin Trains 'trainbow', which has been replaced by 91121 which is LNERs 'trainbow'

When I worked for GNER many of the trains on my commute were Class 91 powered. Although the fleet had official names, loco 91132 "City of Durham" was affectionately known as "Lucky".

Have tended to have an uneasy feeling rather than any affection for that one

It was on display along with other 'classic' examples from the ECML of old

This shot in the low sun shows the problem with keeping them clean as originally turned out!

Here's 91031 again, showing the white GNER branding at Newcastle on 26th August 1997 (The HST in the background is the same)

By 5th September 1999 the same loco had received the more familiar gold-coloured branding and is here heading north from the Central Station, viewed from the end of the High Level Bridge
