I seem to have been far too busy to find any modelling time this month. But finally got the main gutters and 1 downpipe attached to the goodsshed. It's not perfectly straight but not far enough out for me try fixing it.

Probably going to make the sliding doors next while I try and save some funds for landscaping materials... but 18000 is also arriving tomorrow.

The first door is now built, and fully posable. The 3D printed runner wheels have worked really well and lock onto the rail perfectly.

First shows the complexity of the rear, although the opposite end door will have be even more complex with the low door.

The door closed:20211030_225143.jpg.c9455c0305ce55aaf4bc3f16f648beae.jpg20211030_225150.jpg.66465e6a85fdbdf3f3be63b5ddac7f89.jpg

And open:

Tonight I've finished cutting the first bit of landform, and run straight into a dilemma... in order for the slope of the embankment to fall behind the wing wall, it has to start someway into the bridge deck.

Would a small retaining wall to hold back the road surface be prototypical?20211117_210628.jpg.00d47e5c66a9b20ec31dbab364136b1c.jpg

  • 2 weeks later...

Well an unfortunate stay at home order has created a free weekend of modelling time, which I'm trying to fill in between the required rest.

Yesterday I built up the foam embankment on the photo Plank, which was covered with plaster cloth today. 20211127_164730.jpg.25681845d3a0904984667bffee6c5181.jpg

Yesterday also saw the addition of gutters to the Goods shed office, and fabrication of the corrugated lean-to.20211126_180440.jpg.4c36f9e8f1e8679bd7d6753270dbd6de.jpg

And today has seen the installation of the embankment against the backscene. I'm pleased with how this looks and it'll be good to get some greenery down.20211127_151513.jpg.c36f35c3a5dfc4c02e82f3514bb0d329.jpg

tomorrow I'll get some sculptamold on the photoplank embankment. I'm considering putting some plastercloth down to the roadbridge on the layout and building the retaining wall around the signal. If I feel up to it, maybe I'll build the steps down to the signal box locking room.

Further progress today...

The first couple of walls of the locking room are cut and assembled. The front wall will need the window opening cutting next.

The embankment against the backscene has had a covering of plastercloth, which makes a world of difference.20211128_221300.jpg.73b331b2f9458b484f7e40cfa108b643.jpg

And finally, I've made a start on the retaining walls around the signal. Would these walls have had columns at the end like the tunnel portal though? I can't decide what looks more appropriate.20211128_221250.jpg.89221cc73a393a180cc6dd84c866e80e.jpg

Either way, back to work tomorrow so the progress will likely slow, although another 3 days of isolation will allow some further progress.

Few more bits of progress over the last couple of days.

20211202_200720.jpg.ff9cff8c91d7664df52792abff9353f1.jpg

Downpipes now added to the Shed Office  and also the floor fitted inside the office.

20211202_123937.jpg.78e36f323cebdcdb8c820c1ce35b4a4f.jpg

The shed doors have also been painted and hung. I think i'm going to light the interior with a nanoled on some crates a la @chuffinghell. It seems a shame to hide all that work on the front of the layout in shadow.

I've also been painting up some Modelu standpipes for the cattle dock as well as some bits for the Goods Shed office.

Having made a bid for freedom with a long weekend post-isolation, I have some woodland scenics turfs as a base on the photoplank.20211208_214928.jpg.305c8ea6b5f66dd072e60e5a6b1f5ba8.jpg

Possibly a first layer of static grass will gone on tomorrow, otherwise it'll probably be next week! But any progress is good progress, no need to rush.

Well the static grass has now made it on. I prefer the embankment to the right so will be basing with WWS 2mm Autumn & Summer, then topping with 4mm spring with patches of Autumn.

For the well kept areas around the station and station master's House I'll base with 1mm and then 2mm.

6mm grass feels like it will be too long, has anyone used it in 00?

Little bit more progress with the weathering of the lean next to the Goods office, and the addition of stand pipes to the cattle dock.

Both captured below during this morning's shunt.IMG_20211218_105223473.jpg.6fc30a9fab97487d9f64c09313504746.jpg

Keen eyes might notice the Goods office door, it's awaiting the floor painting before it can be installed.

The grass around my cattle dock was done using a 2mm base layer and then various shades of 6mm on top.  It does look quite long (but that's ok I think for my situation).

Thanks Graham, that doesn't look as long as I feared.

I may try adding some 6mm dead grass to the embankments then to see how it looks to the naked eye, after all that's what test pieces are for!

looks great!

I’ve used 6mm dead in patches on Warren and it looks okay.

I used the same combination as you have although I can’t remember in which order

Thanks Chris, Warren looks great so some 6mm definitely could be the way forwards.

I'll echo Graham's question as well, the trees look great. How did you do them?

The trees are made from seafoam, cut down to the required size. Sprayed with brown paint and once dry a spray of heavy duty mount adhesive followed by a sprinkle of foam scatter

The foam scatter is from geek gaming scenics

you can either use it in clumps or put it through a sieve

Same view, 10 months later...20210209_183312.jpg.31ba4501e24d4381ec34954d07cbbe7b.jpg20211221_131354.jpg.4fa1a5d9ab374fba8e6d9d833f666d14.jpg

It's nice to reflect back on the year and look at the progress. Completely painted and weathered Bridge. Started landscaping on the layout. Rebuilt the fiddle yard to cassettes and managed to pretty much build an entire Goods Shed.

I'm pretty happy, but it'll be good to properly get away from baseboards and into trees, hedges and grass to create something that feels like the country.

Yesterday I managed to add the final downpipe to the Goods Shed and also Construct the office roof. Seeing it all together it really does look like my reference picture of the Washford Goods Shed and I feel I've done it justice.

And an overall look at the Shed area with the freshly plaster clothed embankment.
