I started this in 'motors and drives' because I wondered if I could trim down the protruding brush mountings on the current Hornby mechanism's motor and received a helpful suggestion. Which as it turned out I didn't use, because there was enough meat in the body shell to grind out clearance for the protrusion when the hacking commenced.

Whatever, it has all gone swimmingly, the Hornby mech now 'drops into' the H-D body shell, and the cladding band representation on the underside of the boiler casting on the Hornby mechanism even aligns with the cladding band on the H-D body. The resulting mash up is now way heavier than the flyweight plastic bodied Hornby, and pulls mightily, as it should: which was the primary object of the exercise. (As I write this I have realised that what was not done today was filling the gaping handrail holes with Milliput, and as dinner now has to be prepared that will have to wait for tomorrow.)
