RMweb Gold Huw Griffiths Posted April 4, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 4, 2020 Andi, Those 310 and 304 builds are looking rather good - I'd love to see a write-up on those in due course (hopefully somewhere like BRM). Using a mix of colours of plastikard when laminating layers strikes me as sensible - and I can see there's some very neat work on those builds. Would I be right in assuming you used 1mm sheet for this? I'm sure that a number of people might also be interested in how you did this laminating (what adhesive / solvent - did you use weights to press layers together - stuff like that). As for me, I'd love to have a go at a similar build myself - but this might prove rather difficult at present. A few years back, someone very kindly provided me with some AM4 / AM5 cutting templates - but I haven't been able to find them recently. I suspect this might have had something to do with an external HDD crashing on my desktop PC the other year. As for the AM10 (and other classes, like AM3 etc.), I wouldn't know where to start with getting drawings in the first place - but I must admit to liking them. As some people might have guessed by now, I've often wondered about joining DEMU - probably in the next few years ... . However, my next model build project is likely to be a bit older - albeit freelance and loosely based on a pioneer internal combustion railbus - with a bit of "rule 1" thrown in, to keep everyone happy. Of course, none of this should detract from your EMU builds - or, indeed, any of the other quality work that's been appearing on this site. Regards, Huw. 2 2

My normal first call when needing drawings is to ask on the DEMU forum as they run a drawing exchange service. Andi

RMweb Premium Keith Addenbrooke Posted April 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) A simple US Walthers’ kit I bought just before the lockdown, but is actually getting built now - without waiting months to get started. The home office is a shared space so layout progress is on hold, but this is a helpful way to relax - I don’t make any claims of great modelling skills, but am happy enough with this. 9C85
I have just been furloughed for 12 weeks . I am going to try and take the opportunity to fit simple wire in tube point control and ballast/ weather my track. It's a 15ft x 2ft shelf layout of a 6-road carriage sidings/ 2-road stabling point, set in the BR Blue era, so there's quite a bit of ballast to put down and a lot of grimy track to weather . This is all new to me so any advice would be appreciated

Fortunately I had the foresight to buy card from my local art shop before the lock-down. http://bedsarchives.bedford.gov.uk/CommunityArchives/Chalton(Mogerhanger)/SouthMills.aspx South Mills which was served by a spur off the Bedford To Sandy (Ox-Cam) at Blunham. I remember going there with my uncle in the mid 60's when very young (5?) and seeing vans in what I later found out was a loop, they were moving but I had no clue about shunting or what a locomotive was!
RMweb Premium Vecchio Posted April 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) Lockdown build: Signals for Frimingham. So far I made 2 pole mounted ground signals. Here is one of them. Whats special about them? They are MSE kits - and do not have a working lantern. Not good enough for me, I added a 1x0.8mm SMD LED to make them work. 20200320_204709 and here the LED 20200327_204524 And a wooden pole upper quadrant home signal. Also MSE, also with added LED Function test of the lantern. No fear, a yellow lens (front part of a 5mm LED, turned down to 2mm) will be added. 20200401_195538 And now ready to go. click on the photo- there is a flickr video behind. 20200403_155207 The only problem I have - Currently no access to the layout. It is one of our MKMRS club layouts.... If you want to see more or more details - have a look into Frimingham. Link on the bottom of the page. Even the power bogie is hand built using gears from a surplus Vi-Trains 37 bogie. 310 alongside my 304 that is also under construction. Andi Anybody else have fond memories of the class 304? I grew up in the NW in the 80s and many a happy trip to Manchester and Stoke on them with late family members to swapmeets and model shops! Wooden panelled interiors and the bounciest seats possible with under seat heaters that’s had settings of freezing or scalding. Was crestfallen when the preserved example was vandalised beyond repair. A bit of Wolverton left with the 504 and an end car from the 305 and 308 but they were both high density inside and a disappointment when they were cascaded in in the 1990s!
