After being forced to cancel their planned meet the Railway Modellers Meet of British Columbia is instead holding a virtual meet.

It is *free* and will be held using Zoom, and will be held on 4 consecutive Thursday evenings starting at 7:00pm PDT, with 2 meets on each Thursday with a 30 minute gap.

Registrations and sessions will start/be announced next week, though a blogger has already announced he will be doing a session on modelling in S scale.

Blog post discussing the first session:

According to Model Railroad Hobbyist (May issue) the NMRA is planning more Virtual Conventions, to be held on May 16th, May 30th, June 13th, and June 27th.

Each one will be on Facebook and be 12 hours long, with I would guess YouTube versions of the videos to appear a week or so later.

I would tune in, but it seems I have to sign up to the NMRA to see the live convention?

Just checked, no membership required.

If you are a Facebook member you can see and participate in the conversation as well as watch the video

With no Facebook account you can simply watch the video.

https://www.facebook.com/NMRA.org/

I would hope that as they did with the first live event they will eventually release the videos to YouTube.

To late for today live, but it appears the NMRA have started live streaming to YouTube as well as Facebook for their live vents.

Today's schedule was;

7a  Gerry Hopkins MMR  Australia  More Layouts from Down Under

8a  Lloyd Henchey  Ontario, Canada  Layout Tour: MHO Junction

9a  Jerry Britton  Pennsylvania  Moving the Presidents by Rail

10a  Dwight Sturtevant  Massachusetts  Layout Tour - New Middleton & Stonypoint RR

11a  Duane Richardson MMR  Texas  If it ain't dirty it ain't done

12p  Scott Perry  South Carolina  Scratch Building Structures

1p  Randall Hammill  Connecticut  New Haven Steam, A Detail Study for Modelers  (1)

2p  Pete Stenmetz  California  Simple, Effective Weathering Techniques

3p  John Bate  Manitoba, Canada  A Gentle Introduction to Arduino Programming

4p  Jim Sacco  Pennsylvania  Easy Streets Using Sintra (and some tips on modelling Streets)

5p  Clark Kooning MMR  Ontario, Canada Modelling Rocks on your layouts

Upcoming schedule:

June 13 6am - 6pm EDT  NMRAx (the current stuff they have been doing)

June 20 7pm - 9pm EDT Ask the MMR

June 27 6am - 6pm EDT  NMRAx

Limited slots available.

The second Hindsight 20/20 Virtual RPM will be held on Saturday, August 22nd from 12:00 noon EDT to 8:00pm EDT.

There are 10 presentations scheduled, each about 30 minutes with a 15 minute break between presentations and a 45 minute meal break.  Registration is free, and there are details on how to make a donation via PayPal to cover the costs of the Zoom fee for those willing.  Full details can be found at http://speedwitchmedia.com/product/hindsight-20-20-2-0-registration/

At time of posting there are only 244 spots left.

And potentially coming in November is a virtual Trainfest.  The annual Trainfest show in Milwaukee had to be cancelled as the venue was uncertain for their November dates, but they are hoping to run a virtual show of some sort.

I 'attended' the first 2 Hindsight2020 RPM meets and thoroughly enjoyed both, picked up lots of new tips and ideas and saw some top-notch modelling.

For UK residents, the timing is doable, 17:00-01:00.

Highly recommended, I've already registered for Hindsight 3 :D

No details as of yet but they are also planning another full session on October 24th, and plans are underway for more after that.

They also put out a request for anyone who would be interested in presenting a session to contact them (sessions are 30 minutes).  Easiest contact would probably be Ted through the Speedwitch media website.  - http://speedwitchmedia.com/

Just watched the first one - ran for 1h 22m and it mainly covered Cedar Rapids with the C&NW, Rock Island, and Milwaukee Road with some photos from other nearby places and the streetcar / interurban lines thrown in.

If one had the space and couldn't decide on a railroad Cedar Rapids could be ideal with all 3 running next to each other through downtown with a union station for the first 2 and freight houses and some industry.

I registered for the Hindsight 20/20 v4 as soon as it opened for the meet held last Saturday, 24th.

It was a brill collection of clinics, enjoying the layout tour from Tom Johnson, very impressed by his work, will keep look out for any news on his layout. A very talented modeller indeed.

Stay safe.

James.

Generally the clinics presented are not recorded (copyright reasons for included material) but one of the clinics from the last Hindsight was recorded and anyone wondering what to expect may want to check it out.

The presentation was "The Pennsylvania Railroad Transition Era Gondola Fleet (in 30 minutes)" and the PDF of the presentation can be found here:

http://speedwitchmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/PRR-Transition-Gon-Fleet.pdf

And the video:
