The EP looks awesome, so the project can move forward and look forward to seeing the decorated samples, eventually :P

Gents,

I have a blue/grey on order and that looks so good that I am now thinking that I may also get an NSE version.

One question, if I may? The NSE artwork shows the headlamp which Caroline carried when in NSE, but the EPs shown do not show that option (which I guess may have meant that a third bodyshell needed to be tooled). Will the NSE version carry a headlamp? Not a deal breaker, but I was wondering.

Thanks in advance,

Roy

“These samples are being checked for fit and details. Once they are approved some further engraving will be done – such as adding rivets – then decorated samples will be prepared.” The couplings look droopy – I’m sure that’s been spotted.

So far, it looks excellent. :good:

They look great, does anyone know if in the BR/NSE eras prototypically they could be propelled/drive non push-pull locos, e.g. 33/0s?

When converted in 1969 it was designed to be propelled by classes 33/1; 73; 74 and all powered 1951/1957/1964 type EP braked EMU's.

As far as I'm aware any other types of locomotive could be used to haul it, including 33/0 and 33/2's . If any body knows more details please enlighten me.

Looks magnificent, and I'm very tempted.  I would ignore it being the wrong period and part of the country for me but for the price tag.  It's not much less than a pair of KUAs.  A hell of a lot to pay for one coach, but if the quality is as good as it looks, I can't really say  it's overpriced, even more if memory serves than the magnificent LNER dynamometer.  Of course if I win the Lotto Rule 1 will be bent a bit further!

I ordered the Green version as soon as it was announced, and TBH I can’t remember what the price is, but I’m sure it’s less than I’ve paid for any other complete rake of stock recently ! :D
So much so, that the NSE version might well be acquired too.

Cheers,

Phil.

That's the key point for me. With a loco it's a complete train.

Certainly not cheap but it's only really a motor and drive away from being a loco and given the slightly niche nature of this item they won't be making millions to drive down the tooling cost per item either.

In its original state the multi working was only the ones you have mentioned, 33/0 or 33/2 don’t have a west code valve fitted, they are only blue star or 27 way multi.

Did Lonnie Donegan do the naming?

Decided to order one, very excited. When you think about it, you are basically paying for a high quality DMU without a motor. Will be a nice train, although a modern accurascale 37 is now looking more and more tempting.

An Accurascale 37 would be a very nice accompaniment!

The most common company for it (it would seem) nowadays is a Bachmann model, 37421 in Colas livery. I got one last year specifically to run with this

Same here as I’ve ordered both, though from what Accurascale have said, I think Lord Hinton will arrive the middle of next year.

I had heard that too a week or so ago, thanks for mentioning it though as I was meaning to go and see it and forgot all about it! Going to Scarborough at some point.

The point about 421 is more that most of the pics I have found of it from the last few years seem to be with it.

Edit, I had heard DRS 37/4, not precisely 37424 (for some reason when I saw 424 I thought I had read that) so I am now better informed, thanks! Edit again, I have seen on Facebook today that 407 has gone to pick it up.

FWIW, I think these are listings for it:

York to Hull on Thursday

York to Hellifield Friday

37407 on 5Z02 Derby-York....

Might sneak out to see it Friday. (not for the 37 though)
