PeterH
One other thing interesting to note is both models come fitted with front steps. Looking at photos of 4771 it doesn’t appear to have them in real life.

Even the other four of the first batch of five V2s have steps.
Steamport Southport
It did in BR days. Look here. https://preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.com/60800-green-arrow-lner-4771-lner-700-lner-800-br-60800/ Also in 1938 if the date of this photo is correct. Half way down. https://roysrailpage.xp3.biz/FB4S01.html Jason Edited December 25, 2021 by Steamport Southport

Indeed the pioneer member of the class did enter service without steps at the front but this is what RTCS 'green book' Vol 6C says on the subject. "Incidentally, when built, No. 4771 had no front footsteps (a curious omission, as these had become standard on the A1 and A3 classes since march 1935), but they were fitted soon afterwards." The subsequent post by Steamport Southport showing 4771 with steps in 1938 is certainly correct. P141 of the recently published biography of Arthur Peppercorn has another photo of 4771 in LNER days pulling a fast freight service pre WW2 with steps clearly visible.
60800
Green Arrow now detailed, with etched plates added. I have left off the cab doors as they interfere with the tender ones that were pre-fitted; Cheers, 60800
