I decided to add an additional structure to the side of the building. The only difference being I've given it a slate roof whereas the main garage will be corrugated.

I also decided to represent a bricked up window, simply because it's a feature I fancied representing - I think it turned out OK.

B2

The wonky guttering is unintentional - the glue set before I had a chance to correct it!

Here's the whole thing together.

That is the most convincing cement render I've seen, and the rest of the small building looks amazing as well. Could you please explain how you achieved the finish.

Thank you @simonmcp, that's very kind of you to say.

I should pretend that it's a highly scientific process, requiring many specialist tools and materials...but it's actually regular household filler, sanded right down to reduce the texture. I painted it with washes of very diluted brown and grey enamel paint.

I know that's not a detailed explanation, but there was a lot of making it up as I went!

Well, that's pretty close to real science :)

I agree with the comments above, it's a very impressive render. Thanks for the tip! Must be fairly coarse household filler when you began? I've tried sanding some of the super smooth stuff before, and it becomes almost like an ice rink :D

Yep - it's cheap as chips stuff in a tube from the £ shop. Wasn't expecting much from it, and was very unhappy with the texture initially which led to me sanding it down. To my surprise, it turned out really well, and the washes settling in the imperfections in the surface only made it better.

I'm not sure if the good stuff i.e filler you'd actually use in the house would work as the surface would be too smooth!

Hi all,

Bit of progress. Been working on the garage doors. Wanted to represent these as faded and peeling.

G5

The white bit on the main door - this was a happy accident. I wanted to represent where an old poster has completely faded and partially peeled away from the door in part. I pondered how to do this and in the end I just stuck a square of masking tape to the door and pulled it off. It leaves a nice random peeling effect. I may paint over it, not decided yet.

I've also started painting the end wall.

Edit: about 12 seconds after posting this, I decided I did not like the peeling poster so its now been painted over.

Hello all,

More progress to share. The corrugated roof has been started - some more work still to do though.

G7

I normally use Modelu guttering on my models, however it is very fragile and prone to being damaged. Given the amount of handling this model has while it's being painted, I decided to make something more robust. I've used half round plastic rod - overscale and not as detailed - but a lot stronger.

Quick photo of the repainted door too.

That looks fantastic, if the rest of your modelling is up to this standard your layour will be impeccable! The variety of materials are brought together perfectly by your weathering.

Where did you get the spare tyres from? I'll be needing to add some details to my wharf area soon, and they could work well for disguising my point operating rods as fenders.

Thank you for the kind comment. The tyres are laser cut items from scalemodelscenery:

Hi all,

Back on track with another wagon off the production line. I built this a while ago, but never got around to painting it until now.

Probably a few errors with the details and markings but I'm more interested in painting and weathering!

I found a few photos of vans with patch painting and warning flashes in random locations that I liked and used as inspiration.

Hello all, welcome back!

Decided to do some work on the layout over the weekend instead of building wagons and other random bits. First task however, was to dust the layout down and remove the excess of wagons that had been dumped there.

First major decision was that the garage had to go - just made it too cramped.

Then I set to work building the base for the road (please note these photos are very bright! A lot of unpainted white plastic on show!)

A look up the hill towards the main road...

And while I was in the swing of things, I started making the layouts first tree.
