Enfys_Rainbow
And here is the aforementioned Lanarkshire bufferstop. It makes a pleasant afternoon project. I'm not sure if there should be an extra sleeper at the back to be honest, but it'll be right up against the backscene so there's very limited room if so (also ignore the chairs - these face away from the front of the layout so aren't even visible). 4
Enfys_Rainbow
Bit of progress with the corrugated building I started. My plans for this is for it to have a rusty, patchy finish. It's been undercoated with a base layer of "rust" ready for further painting. This has also had the advantage of making it easier to take a photo of! The overlaid foil panels looks reasonably thin to my eye. 12
RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted May 12, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 12, 2021 (edited) Looking good. Sorry if I missed it, are you using Ambis corrugated panels? I agree, very realistic with it's thin edges, a bit of a to cut without damaging the edges, but far superior to plastic sheet where an edge is required IMHO. Mike. Enfys_Rainbow
Hi Mike, It's SE Finecast embossed plastic sheet. The overlaid bits are actually kitchen foil. I tried butt jointing the sheets but it just doesn't look convincing. I'm not sure of the longevity of this method but time will tell... 1
Enfys_Rainbow
Bit more progress with the rusty tin shed. It's getting there is all I can say right now. The roof needs some further work and then the whole thing needs some more weathering to blend it all together. 12
sb67
The rusty finish looks great, how did you get that? Have you seen the Charlie Strong Metals thread on here? There's some superb rusty weathering in it using a hairspray technique to get patchy rust.

I have seen that thread - this has also been done using the hairspray technique (well actually AK's Heavy Chipping Fluid)
Popular Post Enfys_Rainbow
Hi all! Some photos of the completed building. Not sure if I really like it now, but it was fun to build and paint! Thanks for looking! 20 5
Enfys_Rainbow
Hi all, I've just put this Petite Properties laser cut kit together and clad it in embossed plastic sheet. It's not suitable for the layout, but I am intending on using it as a testbed for painting brickwork - which'll be required for the viewblocker house at the left hand side. Bit of fun, and I may make use of it in the future.
Enfys_Rainbow
Hi all, I've started thinking about the building that will occupy the right hand side of the layout. My original intention was to have a brick-built warehouse type building. Having laid the track, I now don't have enough space to do this justice so thoughts have switched to alternatives. I've recently bought a Ratio Provender Store kit from eBay and this will form half of the structure. I've made a rookie mistake by planning the size based on the space available and forgetting that these buildings were prefabricated panels. As a result, my building is one panel short. I'm sure you're thinking "add an extra panel in" but I can't without damaging what I've already built. It's not a big deal in the scheme of things, but I'm wondering if this would ever have happened in reality?
RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted May 25, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 25, 2021 I think that was the basic theory behind the buildings, as many panels, both length and width, as the site required. ISTR there are/were a couple of monsters at Haverfordwest. Mike.
Enfys_Rainbow
I've actually solved my earlier dilemma by moving the right hand leg inwards by 1 panel. Not strictly prototypical but it improves the balance of the building. The gap to the right of the leg will be infilled with brick. Here's a posed shot on the layout which gives a feel for how it could look... Edited May 25, 2021 by Enfys_Rainbow
bazzer42
Hope you're enjoying the build, I struggled to complete mine without taking a razor saw to the blighter. If you need any bits I have some odds and sods left over from an attempted low relief build. 1

To better illustrate my previous post, here's a (rather poor) photo of a mock up of my intended brick solution.

You and me both, mine was put back in the box quite a number of years ago before it became a projectile, due to difficulties getting it square, flat and level, where it has remained ever since! Well done to ER for managing a successful outcome. Mike
Enfys_Rainbow
I've found the key is to insert my own "floor" and not rely on the diagonal bits supplied by Ratio!
Enfys_Rainbow
Still plodding on with the Provender store. Doesn't look much different to the last photo I posted but I've actually done a fair bit of work since then - a lot of it internally to strengthen it up. Externally, the main change is the addition of gutters and downpipes using a combination of Modelu parts and plastic rod. Doors are under construction at the moment...
marc smith
Some great weathering and painting here @Enfys_Rainbow Really like that Provendor store too. Am enjoying looking back through this thread. I always liked the building at the far left of the layout, disguising the entry point. The different levels really look spot on.

If the weatherings anything to go by, it's going to a cracking layout once all done. 1
Enfys_Rainbow
Thank you for both for the comments! The Provender continues to progress, albeit slowly. A scratchbuilt door has been added, although not very visible here. I've also built this MDV from the Five79 kit. Really nice model to build. Although the instructions made it really clear, I still managed to assemble the brake gear the wrong way around...whoops!
Enfys_Rainbow
Before I get the paints out, I thought I'd add this to the pile. It's a Parkside 24.5t mineral wagon which was built a good few years ago and badly painted. After stripping the paint, replacing the damaged bufferbeams and adding new buffers it's good to go. The open door - bit of a gimmick maybe, but it serves a purpose - this door was damaged after being in storage.
Enfys_Rainbow
Bit of painting tonight, more of an undercoat than anything else...
Enfys_Rainbow
Hello everyone, Just thought I'd do a quick update with progress with my 24.5t mineral wagon. The "rusting" has been done. The effect of the replated panels is just paint. I feel that adding a panel to the wagon side looks overs ale, regardless of what you use. I've also found a second salvageable wagon, built and painted several years ago. Not going to bother stripping the paint on this one, I'm just going to add to it. 9
