RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted January 17, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 17, 2021 I friend of mine...we shall call him Keith, because that’s his name......has several Bachmann DMUs and EMUs that are showing signs of windows misting up. They have been stored boxed. I’m assuming this a reaction with the glue used in making them. Is there a cure cure to return the windows to clear? Would storage out of the original boxes help? many thanks in advance
trevor7598
Misting is something that affects the windscreens of some Corgi and EFE buses. This seems to be caused by sunlight. My Bachmann EMU's are kept in cabinets when not in use, in daylight, and are not showing signs of misting. I wonder if your friend displayed his models near a sunny window before boxing them. 2
RMweb Gold Phatbob Posted January 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 18, 2021 If it's only the surface of the transparant plastic that's gone a bit cloudy this can be cured with a coat of Johnson's Kleer. HTH 2 1
RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted January 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 18, 2021 Kleerly. I've found that misting from superglue can be wiped off with a damp cloth or tissue, or cotton bud to get into your awkward little places, but have on some models left the misting there, sometimes with an impression of a passneger having cleared a patch to see through, to evoke a rainy day when windows misted up once soggy passengers got inside coaches. The opposite version of the same thing is dirty outsides of windows on NPCCS wiped clean by station staff wanting to check what's inside without opening the doors.
