Censorship (what you can and cannot discuss in this section)

Germany and her history is a delicate matter therefore, I have been researching what can and cannot be discussed, specifically for this section.

The most delicate time period is evidently, from approximately 1933 until 1945 notwithstanding the preceding years before the national socialist party of Germany came to power.
Discussion of any of the personalities, policies, activities, symbols etc from this period is BANNED.

While the above will be strictly monitored, the railways of this period did continue to exist and understandably, some are interested in this period. I have no difficulty in accepting this as long as any such discussion is kept strictly to the development or operation of these railways, with the exception of the railways involvement with the holocaust as this is part of the banned discussion.

See the following Wikipedia page for any further details;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_in_the_Federal_Republic_of_Germany

Specifically under “Main Laws”

Note to Pedants: Yes, this relates to the Federal Republic of Germany rather than today’s country but their lawyers must have been better than me so until I can attain a greater understanding, this is it.

Discussion of the railways in the early period of development in the Lander, until the earliest above mentioned dates and from the establishment of the countries of both East and West Germany through unification and onto the present day are fine as long as they observe normal forum rules.

Brexit.

Discussion of the difficulties encountered in trading with the EU as a whole, not just Germany, can take place in the subject “https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/161021-buying-and-selling-models-tofrom-europe/

Discussions about the causes of Brexit, the politics thereof, whether for or against are BANNED.

This is a non-partisan policy that is closely monitored on a daily basis.

all of your posting is highly appreciated, but formally, Germany is sitll the FRG, because the reunification didn't result in a new republic. The GDR did join ('beitreten') the FRG, so the resulting nation is the FRG. The united Germany still has the old constitution of the FRG.

Doesn't make much of a difference anyway :-)

I've removed several posts in line with that request.

I took that out because it referenced a potential outcome because of the nature of the other posts.

Hi

I don't think it's a problem to discuss or asking anything about these dark times. But Germany was not the only country being in dark times back then.

It's definitely not allowed to promote the nazi scum, but it shouldn't be a problem to ask questions about railway related questions or creating a layout in the 30's.

The good thing about model railroading is, there are NO politics, no parties, just fun. I have a lot of books with pictures from legendary Carl Bellingrodt, and it is surprising that you can rearly see a flag or anything related to these craziness! Too many beautiful locos, MU's and coaches were created in the 30's in Germany.

Politics shouldn't matter in this case... I think! We modelers have the ability to create the world as WE want it!😘

I'm posting this here as I am not wanting to initiate a debate or discussion - this is purely for information, and illustrates the sensitivity around current right-wing politics in Germany.

Following the election of a far-right candidate in a local election in Sonneberg, Piko, a respected manufacturer, has become caught up in the media reaction, simply by virtue of being based there.  The company has issued a video statement on the situation, which opens with an acknowledgement by Dr. Wilfer that this is unprecedented:

I'm afraid I'm not a German speaker, but having read a translation of the transcript, I believe it is suitable for posting here, as it sets out the company's position in case anyone comes across internet comments without this context.  As always with this topic, I am happy if the moderators deem it unsuitable and want it edited or removed.

I don't wish to add any comment or opinion.  I hope that's OK, Keith.

Thank you for this link, Keith, I had not picked up Dr Wilfer's commentary on the election of a far-right candidate to the post of regional mayor in Sonneberg. Frau Rekoboy, whose big sister lived near to Sonneberg, is appalled by the election result, but she is equally shocked by the abusive correspondence, referred to by Dr Wilfer, received by the staff of Piko, simply because they live and work in Sonneberg.

and vote...  However no one knows who they voted for, and people are free to vote for who they want, so still no place for abusive correspondence.
