Shark Navigator NV360 Reviews: How to Spot a Good Vacuum Cleaner

Choosing a vacuum cleaner might not sound like that big of a decision, but it is. A vacuum cleaner is an investment for many of us as they can easily charge us up to $1,000.00 for ones that are really robust.

Others may cost from $200.00 to $500.00, and even that is quite an investment. For this reason, before buying a vacuum cleaner, make sure that it is good and built to last. A good vacuum cleaner makes your life so much easier and sticks with you for a lifetime.

Out of the hundreds of good brands on the market, Shark stands out as a leading company, both in terms of price and quality. They are an American brand with years of experience in the industry, excelling at producing home appliances that cater to the needs of consumers. They have a diverse variety of products that you can choose from, all of them being offered at  competitive prices.

Among others, we think that the Shark Navigator Lift Away Deluxe NV360 upright vacuum is the ideal choice for an average modern household as the machine is the perfect combo between excellency and affordability. In this article, we will show you how we know.

Performance on Carpets and Bare Floors

One of the biggest concerns to buyers of vacuum cleaners is how well a machine can clean up their carpets. There are different kinds of carpets, from low to high pile, from industrial to hand-knitted Israeli rugs. The hard question is to find a vacuum cleaner that has the right built to accommodate each type.

During our tests, the Shark Navigator Lift-away Deluxe NV360 scored remarkably well on both low and high pile carpets. The machine was able to wiggle away from all the obstacles laid out for it, including medium-size cereal crunchies to tiny crusted grains. The machine does leave a little residue on its pull-back, but the amount is negligible.

For delicate carpets, some users have complained that the NV360 might be somewhat too powerful. This led to the issue of it potentially shredding the carpets and leaving tiny fragments of fabric flying in the air. To overcome this issue, Shark itself recommends releasing some of the suction power through the suction valve, situated near the end of the machine.

Doing so reduces some of the pressure, lowering the suction power. This tip also applies when you feel that the machine is a bit sticky to push. The second thing that you can do is simply to put the delicate rug away from the cleaner, since—and I’m positive about this—delicate rugs are not meant to be run over by aggressive vacuum cleaners anyway.

Performance on bare floors

With regards to bare floors, the Shark vacuum NV360 also does quite well. In our test, it picked up virtually all of the dirt that was scattered in its path. If we must compare, however, this machine performs somewhat better on carpets than on bare floors.

If your house has mostly bare floors, then we recommend the Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away NV501 instead, but it cannot pick up pet hair and dander as well as the NV360, and also costs a bit more.

One thing to note when using the NV360 is that it has two different modes of operation: the first one is “bare floor” where the brush roll does not spin, and the second one is “brush roll on”, indicating that that is when the brush starts to spin. Spinning creates the necessary movement for the brush to get into deep layers of carpet, cleaning out all food crumbs and debris that are missed by the ordinary eye.

Pet Hair Pick-up

As with the issue of pet hair pick-up, the NV360 does a good job wiping those away from the surface. What does happen is that the hair might entangle around the brush, making it a pain to take them off later on. You might need a pair of scissors to help you with this.

While this sounds like a nuisance, it is a pretty logical and inevitable thing: when the brush rolls, it whirls the hair with it. In the process, the hair gets wrapped around the brush. The longer the hair, the more circles it’s going to twirl. For other models where the brush does not roll, they can’t do the job that well.

Noise level

When put on a scale with most other upright vacuum cleaners of similar weight and power, the Shark Navigator Lift-away Deluxe NV360 upright vacuum generates significantly less noise. This might be a minor thing for some but it makes a great difference in users’ experience.

I bet we all remember that woozy feeling, the ringing in our ears after a vacuum cleaner is turned off. The longer (and louder, even, if you know what I mean) the ringing, the louder the vacuum might have been that it leaves such a long-lasting effect. With the NV360, you don’t have to worry much about this issue as it is has an exceedingly delicate suction.

Smooth emission

Another major concern for users of vacuum cleaners is the issue of emission. Some vacuum cleaners suck dirt up really well, yet they cannot contain it. There can be problems of leakage, of dirt and debris escaping the dust bag and re-entering the air, which more or less defeats the purpose of vacuuming in the first place.

Most producers of modern vacuum cleaners are aware of this and have gone to great lengths to make sure it won’t happen with their products. Shark is certainly one of them.

With this little blue Shark vacuum, dust is stored in a dust cup— one that is placed squarely inside the main body of the machine. To reach the dust cup, you must press on the two locks on the side to release it. This is to say it can’t spill or fall out by accident, spilling dust in the process. Rest assured that if something comes in, won’t come out, at least not involuntarily.

And that concludes our Shark NV360 reviews. We hope that you’ve gained some insight into the features and uses of this machine. If you like this article, please don’t hesitate to give it a like or share it with your friends!
