MK2 Pullman's next...

They would be nice.  Four variants of BR livery and the private owner colours too.

Wednesford Wednesday could charter a set to take the team and club officials down to Wembley to play in the kickball final for the FA Charity Soup Tureen Trophy. (That's my justification for a rake anyway)

Mark 2B Update!

Accurascale-Mk2-BR-line-up-01.thumb.jpg.8f8ccb217c9539f63a2b6781f5a3a84b.jpg

Hi everyone,

It really is coach week here at Accurascale! Following the launch of our Mark 1 Suburban coaches and the Mark 5s in production, it was time we checked in on the Mark 2B.

As you can see, we have received the BR liveried samples (with very rough paint application and assembly, but that wont be the case on your final models!) and have assessed them ahead of production.

Cheers!

These really are starting to look the mutts, really looking forward to them arriving.

The one niggle I have is the bow still being apparent in the bogies at this stage, though I assume this is part of what is referred to by rough assembly.

These are the same bogies from the original EP, we'll have later samples soon with the shape fully correct 👍

If you read the full review as linked it explains why they are bowed.

Holy smokes, these are shaping up to looking like a lovely model, detail not seen before in 00.

You're really showing up the competition, especially at such a low price for what's on offer.

I'm happy to trust the final ones will be straight but tbf the review just says missing contact strips and so doesn't really explain how that's causing them to be banana shaped.

Overall looking good. I'm also looking forward to seeing the lights working.

Cheers

They do state that the bogies are not the production bogies, and are the EP’s (assume that’s the Engineering prototypes or similar), so I wouldn’t worry…. After all as they have said, it’s a roughly put together and painted coach, and they post all there development photos of their projects, warts and all, as they become available.

Hi everyone,

Hot on the heels of the BR variants yesterday are the NIR variants for Irish Railway Models. On display is the unique tooling for the Northern Ireland variants, of driving car, generator coach and buffet, and quirks such as the wider bogies frames for Irish gauge.

These look very nice. NSE paler shade of blue look darker/richer than I recall however I think that's likely more to do with sun damage/fading I recall to the coaches into waterloo in the early 90s. Wonder what the best way of achieving this faded weathered finish would be? Highly diluted white/cream wash with an airbrush? Any good tutorials out there anyone know of? Thanks

NSE is not my thing, but I recall its launch well and doing some mega-bashes on the NSE day rovers.

First thing that struck me when I looked at those samples was that Accurascale had got the light blue bang-on. It looks so much better than others have managed so far.

I use, of all things, ladies eye mascara to weather my stock, much cheaper than modelling weathering powders and because ladies like to blend their eye lard, it can be easily smudged and blended.  Once I've achieved the effect I want, using a mix of brush, make up applicators (again not a lot for a load off the internet) and the Mk1 finger, I fix it into place with artist pastel fixative which again is much cheaper than specialist modelling aerosol fixative.  Ladies eye lard comes in multiple shades, and I find the lighter creams and fleshy tones work best at creating the streaky weathering coaching stock used to end up with, whilst the darker "earth" shades (or even "Goth" make up dark greys and black) make suitable weathering colours for lighter liveries and paintwork.

For the price of one set of three Tamiya weathering pots you can get over a dozen different earthy or goth-y colours off certain on line sources.  I expect it's not much cop as eye mascara but it's fantastic as cheap weathering powder, and avoids you having an appointment with the other half's carving knife for robbing her beauty products.

Now if only you'd do that buffet car in BR blue/grey livery WR numbered following the Mk1 number series, I could complete my rake! Who cares it never existed?

Can't help thinking that driving trailer would look just as nice being pushed by an English Electric powered, Derby built DMBS at some point as I seem to recall seeing video of a DBSO now numbered 754 being used as a driving trailer replacement, together with a mainline Mk2b/c a scratch DEMU set formation in "Inter City" branded bumble bee livery.

Take my money now.

Hi I thought much the same with 754 but sadly the chop guys had adapted front wiring recesses on conversion and in the undergubbins swapped from 3 pipe to 2 pipe for demu operation but in 4mm we can gloss over that technical carnage.   But certainly it makes good for 80class fun in the future.   Hopefully the 80 Class will be offered as a power car on its own and then select trailers and drivers to match.  The sandite set with three powercars will be a force  to recon with unless some dummies made up.

I can see the plan for buying 80 class will result in donating organs if they are going to be  one off short run affair. ...

The NSE stock looked nice but didnt wash well,  bleaching especially of the red stripe occured regularly, and the ever present brake dust.

A combination of rubbing down random patches of red / blue and application of a film of dust plus varying levels of roof decay would complete the effect.

overall theyve got it, NSE blue was light, there was definitely a darker shade used later (but I seem to recall associating it more with revised nse and locos), but as released I think its dead on.
I have some NSE branded signage and reckon its good).

Yeah NSE started off light blue then because of bleaching the revised livery went darker.

Having done quite a few photos of NSE light blue models it can look quite different under different lighting conditions. I'd say the blue looks good but until seen in natural light you never really know. Simple matt varnish will dull it a bit.

It's amazing how the blue shade varies in different photos... flicking through the life and times of 50050 fearless book demonstrates this.
