woodenhead
Think I will bite on an 03 and then attempt to make my other shunters work on DCC as well.
bmthtrains - David
Fitting DCC in an 03 is certainly an achievement, and suggests how popular DCC presumably now is. Another difficult announcement for Bachmann regarding Farish though, as while again no new major models have been revealed, as they mention in the video there has been a continual stream of previously announced new releases throughout the year. The backlog certainly seems to be behind the lack of further announcements, but they really could do themselves a favour by highlighting the new products that have already arrived or are due as it just plays into the narrative that they don’t care about the scale any more, which is far from true. Those gorgeous OO 90s really do need the shrink ray applied as well - surely they would be a stronger seller in N than the forthcoming class 319? The 150s also look like the chassis block no longer fills half a carriage, another example of the steady upgrade of models to allow for DCC sound I presume? RMweb Gold TomE Posted November 3, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 3, 2021 Good to see the 03 & 04 get DCC sockets, a nice update and much needed especially in the face of the NGS Hunslet. The GMPTE 150 is a surprise and the Mk.2A TSO could be useful for those wanting more common liveries and are willing to repaint. It would have been better in bog standard BR blue though I feel. I guess the lack of mention of the 319 means we won't be seeing that until early next year now? And at least modern image modellers have some bang up to date toilets to go with the previous 1980's version... Tom. 1
montyburns56
While it's good that Farish have listened to the cries for another run of their MK2 TSO coaches I don't think that they were listening properly.... RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted November 3, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 3, 2021 I am tempted by a blue 03 I must say. Hopefully the RTC Mk2 TSO means a fresh run in other liveries is on the way too.
jonas
Here’s hoping the 03/4 means a DCC ready 08 chassis will make an appearance sooner rather than later too! 1
RMweb Premium Steven B Posted November 3, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 3, 2021 Being positive, there's more for N Gauge modellers in this announcement than the last two (with at least one model I'd buy - time to start saving!). I'm surprised an RTC liveried Mk2a TSO features higher on their to-do list than a re-run of plain Blue/Grey ones though... I do feel that it's a great shame that Bachmann have let the 50th anniversary of the Graham Farish brand pass with barely any mention. I wasn't expecting the likes of Hornby's Rocket, APT and retro boxes, but something more than repaints of existing models would have been nice... It's a strange choice isn't it. You'd think if they have limited production slots available for N Gauge, for whatever reason, they would choose to do the basic liveries that people need to replicate everyday formations But on the plus side, as mentioned above, if you're happy to repaint at least you'll actually be able to get hold of a TSO now. Maybe it is outside of their control though, we know there are production problems now across many industries due to shortages be it raw materials or power, maybe they've had to put it off. It's interesting there was the GBRF Graham Farish class 60 (not a model) - that didn't spring from nowhere, it was planned, so perhaps Bachmann had other stuff planned, like a GBRF class 60 but have not been able to deliver it in 2021. RMweb Gold Stuart A Posted November 3, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 3, 2021 (edited) I'll be getting the RTC coach, and I'l love to be able to afford the 150 in RR GMPTE, but I'll have to wait to see if it's discounted in time. Think the only thing I'm dissapointed not to see is shrunk EFE Tiger Clay PBAs, but as the JIAs didn't arrive in the promised 3 month window from announcement, hopefully they might become a 2022 release. Really supprised that GBRF 60002 "Graham Farish – 50th Anniversary 1970 - 2020" wasn't announced, I'm sure it was implied in a previous video that it was on the cards, but the 2021 boat has sailed to make that possible in the anniversary year. At least it will give me chance to pay off my Revolution balance payments..... Edited November 4, 2021 by Stuart A spelling

It was mentioned in a previous video. No doubt it was intended to arrive this year but COVID and supply chain delays have seen to that — it's intended to be a sound upgrade. Not by NGS standards. The Hunslet shunter was the 50th Anniversary model, the anniversary year was 2017.....

The Hunslet shunter was the 50th Anniversary model, the anniversary year was 2017..... This is true, but (and I'm referring specifically to n gauge here, although the same may well be the case for other gauges) pretty much every manufacturer has experienced fairly considerable delays with at least some of their releases in the last few years for a variety of well discussed reasons - developments in Chinese manufacturing practice, Brexit, Covid, supply chain crises, shortages of and rising costs of raw materials, wages etc. to name just a few. Admittedly in some cases (and Dapol's WC / BoB is looming large in my mind as I write this) the delays are to some degree self inflicted, it's often the case that global events completely beyond a producer's control have conspired against them. It's been a pretty challenging few years for Farish / Bachmann, Dapol and the NGS and even the brilliant newer entrants to the market - Revolution, Sonic etc have seen some delivery times stretch to a level way beyond what they'd anticipated and planned for. I think the Farish 319, which is due early 2022, was announced in 2016 - quite a wait and although it's a little outside my timeframe, I'll definitely be picking one up. We can reasonably question some of the decisions that manufacturers make on which models to prioritise (do we really need a RTC TSO before any one of countless blue/grey, green, maroon, choc & cream mk1s?), but I take the view that rather than bash them (and any other n gauge producers) for taking so long to get a model on the shelves, I'm just grateful that, in the climate of the last few years, they've made the effort to (hopefully shortly) get it there at all. Getting back to the NGS Hunslet - I think the Society have stuck their necks on the line a little with this and should be highly commended for it. I can't wait for mine to arrive. I wonder if the DCC ready 03s and 04s would have appeared quite so soon if the NGS hadn't broken some considerable ground. Mark
RMweb Premium njee20 Posted November 3, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 3, 2021 The model of 60002 is pending the sound upgrade of the chassis; to that end I’m not sure they ever said it would be this year, but it feels ridiculous that the real railway has done a better job of acknowledging the anniversary than the parent company! I’ll still have one when it shows up, but it’s hard not to feel a bit underwhelmed.

fezza
A well-known retailer recently had second-hand blue/grey Mk2a TSOs for sale at £70 each.... I've never understood by BachFarish don't produce more of the bread and butter stuff that people need for everyday operations rather than rare items in very unusual liveries. I guess they think the rare exotic items appeal to collectors, but the fact these stick around for ages, while blue/grey TSO attract a premium on the second-hand market should surely give them a hint about what the market wants? 3
