Michael Portillo is back with a new twist on his railway journeys.

This time it is about the coast and getting there by train or travelling along it by train.

There will be a fair few boats as well as the trains

The first series is around Scotland with another series already made featuring south of the border

First series starts Monday 24 Jan at 1830 on BBC2 (as usual)

I've been watching the first few on catch-up, fab.

Tonight's included the Aln (normally pronounced alan !) Valley Railway. A nice little heritage line whose plan is to re-connect Alnmouth with Alnwick, unfortunately much of the line to the original station* in Alnwick has been built over so they have built a new station called "Lionheart" alongside the A1, so far they have got about halfway to Alnmouth.

*Now a rather nice bookshop "Barter Books" visited by Tim Dunn in his Architecture series. It has an Large Gauge Bahn running around above the bookcases.

It's Alanmouth, Alan Valley but Annick Castle, so I have be told by nor'easters
