Since that photo was taken, both backscenes have been measured, cut, measured again and glued on the boards.

I also tested the new controller and power track, they work brilliantly. The power track has been since glued in position. I tested both tracks with "Galloping Alice" a Roxeys Mouldings kit of M&SWJR 2-6-0 24 in its GWR rebuilt form.

Work on the remaining boards will start next Tuesday.

The original plan for the wheel drop was to print it off and stick it on. However since I discovered this:

I scrapped that idea and decided to build it from scratch. Having a short section of the wheel drop actually on the layout would be better than just sticking a photo on the backscene. Plus, there's plenty of photos to use as references.

One side of the wheel drop shed is bigger than the other side. Plus, the shape of the shed is like an Anderson shelter. I think the best thing to do is build a mock up of it in card and then proceed to build what will end up on the layout.

So after a lot of measuring, cutting, remeasuring, gauging, looking at photos and comparing, I'm proud to announce that I've made the entrance to the wheel drop.

It's not a 100% accurate to the real thing, as there are a few restrictions: space, room for locos, fencing etc.

I'm thinking of cutting a small block of wood into the same shape. It won't be too thick, just to add some depth to the layout.

I might even buy a Dapol loco kit of a Schools class 4-4-0 or BR Standard 4MT 2-6-0 and modify it so that the smokebox is poking out of the shed to look as if it's coming out of the wheel drop! It will be painted and numbered to suit the real locomotive (926 Repton for the Schools class, 76079 for the 4MT).

I recently recovered another pair of the Ratio fences I painted while they were still on the sprue. I left it at the club while moving my stuff to my house. It'll need doing up again as some of the paint has come off.

As for the layout, nothing has been added. Still waiting for an old cereal box for the wheel drop...

I've replaced some of the photos I took that weren't showing up on the topic. I still had some saved on my phone but the others I couldn't replace.

I then took another photo of "1189" simmering outside the wheel drop. The JCB Loadall van be seen in the background.

Yesterday, I made a start on the wheeldrop entrance. It is made out of several pieces of card and the corrugated card. On e I have assembled the card structure, the corrugated card is going to be glued on top of the normal card. I'm thinking of painting the inside as well.
