RMweb Premium Patrick SPF Posted January 24, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 24, 2022 (edited) Having enjoyed @jamie92208 picture essays of his travels in America and Europe, I decided to post a few of my wanderings in Sweden over the years. I only switched to digital in 2007 so the earlier ones will need scanning. Anyway I decided to start on a nice early September afternoon, with one of the preserved sections of the Västra Götalands Järnväg, the Anten Gräfsnäs Järnväg. Having driven up from further south, we were offered a ticket for £10 (if I remember correctly) which included a cup of coffee and a cream covered sweet waffle. Once the refreshments had been consumed I went for a wonder round the station and museum at Anten. First YP913 (AGJ 103) which was one of the two service trains, we were waiting for the steam service The next photo is of the steam service coming into the yard headed by VGJ 24 a 4-6-0 built by NOHAB in 1911 Having wondered across to the museum building I looked back along the yard towards the loco shed, with a Tp class 2-6-2 diesel and various items of stock present. Then into the large museum / stock storage building: Ruda Oskarshamn Railway 2-6-0T No 3, NKIJ Yo1p no 52, Stockholm–Roslagens Järnvägar 4-4-0T "Nanna" or No35, and a couple of narrow gauge wagons. RMweb Premium Patrick SPF Posted January 25, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 25, 2022 (edited) Before we could set off the railbus had to return, then we were off.... For the first part of the journey I decided to stand on the open platform of a four wheel coach which while permitted (the guard just checked that the gates were closed so we couldn't fall off), turned out to be somewhat rough riding so I switched at the halfway point to the platform of a bogie vehicle. RMweb Premium Patrick SPF Posted January 27, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 27, 2022 (edited) Tåg150 the celebration of 150 years of Swedish State Railways (Statens Järnvägar (SJ)) was the climax of a series of celebrations of the opening of Swedens common carrier railways. SJ actually opened in December 1856 with the Köping Hults Railway opening earlier in the year. The Köping Hults' 150 was celebrated in June with an event on the Nora Bergslags Veteran Jernväg which operates part of the line. Tåg150 was done in the usual slot for the Swedish Railway Museum's "museum days", in this case from the 7th to 10th September. As it was very much a celebration of SJ there were a limited number of private railway engines and the TGOJ steam turbine was not present. The museum is located north of Stockholm in the town of Gävle, using a pair of roundhouses on its main site (one is a workshop) and a large store on the other side of town. While I cannot remember the exact price for entry over the weekend it was not expensive and included unlimited train rides on the preserved trains. Everything is presumed to be SJ stock unless otherwise noted. We arrived in Gävle on Friday afternoon and had a wonder down to see what was happening: A view of the busy yard with left to right, an unidentified vintage coach, electric F601, a T41 diesel, SNJ ÄF1 diesel, Mg 620, a visiting NSB (Norwegian) electric and a X16 EMU on the shuttle to Gävle central. Henan Station which had just been moved to the Museum Gävle Model Railway Club have their premises in the basement. There was not a lot of room so I had difficulty with photos. The other Norwegian visitor - this is Caroline There were some demonstration trains running - on the Gävle - Bomhus industrial line, Du 432 running past a preserved strategic reserve shed. RMweb Premium Patrick SPF Posted January 29, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 29, 2022 (edited) On to the Saturday morning, there were three possible options for excursions : -Ride trains on the triangle of lines running Gävle - Storvik - Ockelbo -Travel to the large museum store on the northern side of Gävle -Take a bus tour along on of the lines with opportunities for track-side photography. 3We opted to take the bus tour option which with hindsight may have not been the best option as there were issues with the running of special vintage services on the main line due to a broken point and Gävle and the timetable being slightly too ambitious. So bright and early on Saturday we walked from the museum to Gävle Central and while waiting for the bus went onto the platforms to see what was going on. We found Rc2 1120 in the station along with the Norwegian preserved electric EL1 2001, behind them the coach yard can been seen with trains ready for the off The bus...vintage of course. The driver was having a cuppa while we were waiting for things to happen Tågkompaniet Regina set on a service train.
