Wessex Narrow Gauge Modellers are proud to announce Narrow Gauge South 2022:

Poster NGS 2022 (1)

Following the disappointment, like so many other exhibitions, of having to cancel in 2020 we are please to announce that the exhibition will take place at Barton Peveril College, Eastleigh. This is the same venue that we used for the show with great success in 2018.

For the latest information about the exhibition, exhibits, how to get there etc please see our  website at:

An update on exhibits. Dinas  Ddu, Peter Booth's 8mm scale layout, will not now be appearing. It's place will be taken by Peter's Snowdon NWNGR in 8mm scale.

More updates to come soon. Keep an eye on our website as we get closer to the date.

The latest addition to the line up of layouts at Narrow Gauge South is Dick Wyatt's classic Dovey Valley. This well-known and much admired layout featured in Railway Modeller during the 1980s and has appeared at around 150 exhibitions. Narrow Gauge South will be its last public appearance.

Those of you of a certain age will remember, Dovey Valley also made a notable TV appearance:

Just two weeks until Narrow Gauge South.

For those of you travelling  to visit the show please have a look on the website http://www.narrowgaugesouth.org.uk/wp/?page_id=629  for transport information. The nearest mainline stations are Southampton Airport Parkway and Eastleigh. Both are about 25/30 minutes walking time from Barton Peveril College . Links to the local Blue Star bus services routes 5/5a (from Eastleigh station, stops outside the college) and 2 may be found on the website. The Xela Bus service doesn't serve the college at weekends.

If you're coming via Southampton Airport Parkway don't forget the Eastleigh Lakeside Railway option http://www.steamtrain.co.uk/  . The railway is just a few minutes walk from Parkway. Get a return ticket and alight at Monks Brook Halt. Follow the narrow path out past the allotments and then up the lane between the lock up garages until you emerge on Monks Way. Turn left and walk to the end, then right and you'll see Barton Peveril College a couple of hundred yards along Chestnut Avenue. Walking time is just  four or five minutes. The railway will be running trains until 5.10pm on the day so you can catch a return service on the way back. There is also ample parking at the railway so it would be another option for those of you coming by car to use it as a park and ride service to the show.  Eastleigh Lakeside Railway is a fabulous operation with an enviable collection of motive power so well worth a look on the day.

Keep an eye on our website for the latest information.

For those of you thinking of visiting the Eastleigh Lakeside Railway http://www.steamtrain.co.uk/  on Saturday, or indeed using it as part of your journey to Narrow Gauge South, it may be of interest to know that, according to the webpage, rostered motive power is the 1936 built Bullock Pacific No 2006 Edward VIII http://www.steamtrain.co.uk/locomotives . This is an interesting and historic miniature locomotive in itself, having operated on the Surrey Border & Camberley Railway during its brief existence in 1938/39.

The first Narrow Gauge South exhibitors are in the midst of set up as I write these words.

An update on the parking situation. The builders moved in to Barton Peveril College this week and started digging up the car park! The upshot is that parking is likely to be more problematic than normal for the venue. Extra parking has been made available on the playing field so please follow directions from college parking marshall's on arrival. There is also public parking on the road along Chestnut Avenue, please park carefully in order to make best use of the available space. Parking restrictions apply on local residential streets.

There is also parking at the Eastleigh Lakeside Railway from where you can catch the train to Monks Brook which is just a five minute walk away.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported Narrow Gauge South on Saturday be they exhibitors or visitors. Paul RhB has been posting some images of the goings on over in the main Exhibition section of the forum. Although we were somewhat surprised to find a huge hole in the main car park when we arrived the college provided more than ample extra parking in the end so all was well.

Here's to 2024!
