6990WitherslackHall
In the National Railway Museum in York there's a part of the museum that is called the Flying Scotsman Story. This is a permanent exhibition that tells the story of the Flying Scotsman, both the locomotive and the train! There are a few locomotives that are part of that display including Class 55 King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and a Gresley teak buffet car. Here are some photos: Various headboards D9002 King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Gresley teak buffet car Outside that area are some sidings. This is where working mainline locomotives are temporarily stored and prepped. Every time I have been to the museum, there always tends to be a locomotive or two stabled in those sidings. Here is a photo of them: I haven't been recently but I do have a small collection of photos to post on here. If anyone else wishes to post their pics on here, feel free. 6990WitherslackHall
Ok, so I looked it up and it says on Rail Advent... "This new LNER Wartime Black livery with 4498 on the cab side and LNER on the tender is only temporary and Sir Nigel Gresley will return to steam in BR Express Blue, as voted for by members." 6990WitherslackHall
So yesterday, I visited the museum again. Not much has changed, although 43002 has been moved from the turntable to one of the sidings outside the workshop where D1023 was: the latter is now in the workshop along with GNR Stirling Single No. 1. Would there be any locomotives outside North Shed? Edited February 22, 2023 by 6990WitherslackHall

6990WitherslackHall
Went to the museum on 07/05/22. Outside North Shed, 09017 was there coupled up to the same wagons the last time I went. However, also on view was the 1975 replica of Rocket.
6990WitherslackHall
Visited the museum yesterday. Upon entering the Flying Scotsman Story, I thought there would only be 09017 outside with a couple of wagons Turns out, all the tracks were occupied with locos. 09017 was in the middle track as it was when I last saw it. Class 47/7 47798 Prince William and Class 52 D1023 Western Fusilier have been moved from their usual spot inside the museum to outside. Also there was a real surprise: Princess Coronation 4-6-2 6233 Duchess of Sutherland. 47798 and 09017 D1023 and 6233 Edited February 22, 2023 by 6990WitherslackHall
6990WitherslackHall
Visited the museum yesterday. Class 47 47798 Prince William had been moved into inside the museum. Also gone was the yellow rail crane. This left Class 52 D1023 Western Fusilier and Class 09 09017 outside. D1023 Western Fusilier 09017

6990WitherslackHall
Speaking of steam locomotives, turns out 24/02/22 isn't the last time I saw 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley any longer. I saw the loco at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway's annual steam gala last year. I went on the 23rd and was lucky enough to ride behind it!
