1:1 scale of the Hornby model with the tin worm.

On a serious note I look forward to the skin head version in BR Green to replace the one that I sent to Hornby that I lost to mazak rot.

Terry.

I've pre ordered GFYE and pre TOPS blue both sound fitted ones

Thinking outside the box, I wonder whether the sound file wizards could make use of something like this:

http://www.lucianriders.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=1809

Just to clarify, this links to a video (with sound) taken in the engine room of a 1960s tug fitted with a 2100hp Mirrlees engine.

OK in my excitement of just waking up from my afternoon nap and finding this announcement and racing to the website to order a couple I didn’t read every inch of the gumph, so can I ask if I order a non sound class 30 now might there be the small chance of nearer the time to upgrade it to a sound version Fran?

Looks like you've been doing what I've been doing for the past couple of hours....

On the Mirlees engines did they get re-used as marine engines?  I'm sure I read something like that somewhere, perhaps others might know more.  I wonder if any are still installed?

Next time you're down the docks checking your latest container delivery might be worth having a chat to some of the old salts down there.

Thanks Accurascale, this is the one (ok one of!) I’ve been waiting for!

Looking forward to lots of versions suitable for mid to late 80s - especially 31/4s for the South Trans-Pennines!

31110 is perfect time wise, but I think I’m right that 31409 with white stripe is a little early for this period (unless you can do it with a droopy cab at one end?!) and 31432 is a little late, seemingly not getting its headlight until 1991, so I think that’s more Regional Railways era than Provincial? (if Flickr can be trusted!!)

That said I’ll be getting them anyway as they do look fabulous and you guys deserve the support for bringing out these top notch models at really competitive pricing. :-)

Totally on the same page as you. 432 just a bit late with headlight and 409 just too early. Nether the less 432 is going to be ordered and 110. There are so many variants to be done in the future. Blue 31/4  without headlight. Blue 31/4 with headlight off set. Both the above with/without orange cant stripe. Blue 31/4 centre headlight without cant line. Blue 31/4 skinhead with/without headlight with/without cant line. And that’s just the Blue 31/4’s.
It’s gonna cost is this. Big time.

Personally, I think they've shown complete and utter disregard for my personal finances recently.

:jester:

I suspect the complete opposite - they are trying to make your personal finances THEIR corporate finances :D

And would appear to be good at it.

See for example my link a few posts up.

Mirrlees engines were widely used in tugs (hence the Class 60 nickname) and some of the older ones must still exist in working order.

At a tangent, one of the older working tugs on the Mersey, ‘Svitzer Sarah’ has EE engines and there’s definitely something of a 37 in her growl when working hard!

Hi David,

Absolutely! If we announce we have sorted the sound you would just have to email us your order number and we would do the necessary.

Cheers!

I have three blue Hornby ones so that’s covered but the EWS or mainline one for more recent would be good.

The obvious next target is the 50 ! I can’t build an 80s western region layout as the Hornby one has two small wheels stupid louvres, rubbish steps and most importantly a complete shortage of supply coupled with insane prices.

For now, I’ve reserved 3 at Hattons, so I can chop and change if I wish. I like the fact that the toughened driver’s windscreen is modelled on at least one of the new models. Iconically ugly it was! Must have!

All my Hornby ones were already going on eBay before todays announcement but I didn’t get my arse in gear last month so imagine it might be flooded with them now, so maybe I could have some fun running them off a ledge instead?!

Then post the remains to Margate… ;-)
