Postwar Terrier Variations

As I'm sure we all know, those Terriers that survived to the latter stages ended up pretty much all different. As I've been playing around with looking at mix-and-match-ing some models to make different class members, I though it'd be good to try and keep track of those variations - please do chip in if I've missed anything or got something wrong!

 

To start with, I'm concentrating on those that survived the second war - but this could always be expanded to earlier times later. This gives the following locos in consideration:

 

70 - 32670 - ex-KESR 3, withdrawn 1963. A1X, original sandboxes, tall bunker, no toolbox, Marsh chimney, fully riveted smokebox, tall front & rear lamp irons. Vacuum braked. By 1960, gained semi-riveted smokebox with smokebox mounted lamp irons.

 

72 - 32636 'Fenchurch' - ex Newhaven Docks, withdrawn 1964. A1X, Original bunker without rails, modified sandboxes, tall lamp irons, dual braked, riveted smokebox.

 

59 - 32659 - withdrawn 1963. A1X, original bunker with rails, riveted smokebox, modified sandboxes, tall lamp irons, ? braked

 

61 - 32661, withdrawn 1963. A1X, riveted smokebox, tall lamp irons, original bunker. Vacuum braked. copper-capped chimney

 

62  - 32662, withdrawn 1963. A1X, riveted smokebox, copper-capped chimney, dual braked, original bunker with rails, tall lamp irons. Gained IOW bunker from '77 after withdrawal of the latter, with extra coal rails.

 

53 - WCPR 4 / GWR 6, withdrawn 1948

 

54 - DS680 - withdrawn 1962. A1, original bunker with rails. Smokebox mounted lamp brackets. Dual braked, Drummond chimney

 

55 - 32655, withdrawn 1960. A1X, original bunker with rails, modified sandboxes, riveted smokebox, tall lamp irons, vacuum braked. 

 

46 - FYN 2, 32646, withdrawn 1963. A1X. Dual braked, IOW bunker with rails, original sandboxes, partly riveted smokebox. handrail on tank front, no upper lamp brackets in most photos, but later ones show tall footplate-mounted brackets. At least one photo in unlined early-crest black. copper-capped Chimney

 

47 - 2647, withdrawn 1951. A1X. Original bunker, modified sandboxes, smooth smokebox, tall lamp irons, Drummond chimney. Appears to have carried pre-war SR black to the end.

 

50 - W9, 32650, withdrawn 1963. A1X. Dual braked, IOW bunker, modified sandboxes, smokebox mounted lamp irons, part-riveted smokebox, copper-capped chimney. Toolbox on right-hand tank top at times.

 

43 -WCPR 2 / GWR 5 withdrawn 1954. A1X, original bunker, modified sandboxes, copper-capped chimney, GW style lamp brackets. smooth smokebox

 

44 - 2644, withdrawn 1951. A1X. Dual braked, sunshine lettering, smooth smokebox, copper-capped chimney, original bunker with rails, tall lamp irons.

 

40 - IWCR 11, 32640, withdrawn 1963. A1X, dual braked, riveted smokebox, IOW bunker, original sandboxes, smokebox mounted upper lamp irons. Toolboxes on left-hand cab side and right-hand tank top. Drummond chimney. Handrails on tank front

 

35 - 377S, 32635, withdrawn 1963. A1X, 'Brighton Works' Stroudley livery. Original bunker, modified sandboxes, riveted smokebox, tall lamp irorns, copper-capped chimney

 

77 - W13, 32677, withdrawn 1959. A1X. Part-riveted smokebox, dual braked, IOW bunker with extra coal rails. Handrails on tank front. copper-capped chimney, Smokebox-mounted lamp irons. (so possibly the boiler went to '70? Smokebox appears to match...)

 

78 - W14, 32678, withdrawn 1963. A1X. Riveted smokebox, dual braked, IOW bunker, modified sandboxes, no front upper lamp irons. Drummond chimney

 

82 - 380S withdrawn 1947 for the national collection. A1 condition.
