RMweb Premium NFWEM57 Posted March 5, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 5, 2022 (edited) Hi, Has anybody attempted to change the motor and drive system in an original Ringfield motor HST. I don't mean the CD motor upgrade, I mean along the lines of fitting a more powerful central motor and driving both bogies? Am about to try to do so myself but wondered if anybody else had tried. RMweb Gold Tim123 Posted March 9, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 9, 2022 Back in the day when Bachmann class 25 diesels were under £40 brand new a friend fitted the motor and bogies to a Hornby HST. I saw it running but don't know how complex the upgrade was. Sadly he passed years ago and his stock went to auction. A cheaper option would be to use the motor and drivetrain from an Athearn loco, the blue box versions sell for around £40. HO scale, so not sure about wheel diameters. Another option into use a Bachmann 158 chassis under a Mk3 coach. There's a chassis on eBay for £50 at the moment.
RMweb Premium NFWEM57 Posted April 2, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 2, 2022 Hi, Thanks for the response. In the end I decided to fit the latest HST bogies and motor. I started a new thread. Patrick
