kevo
Hi all . i have had a previous dabble in gn 15 . some yrs ago and offten make a few plans for some thing ellse .so this is a new attempt . Long Man pits . is set in the sussex downs not far from where i live . i have called long man pits after the famous willmington giant figure that can can be seen on the side of the downs . it is in its early stages . hence the muddle of bits in my mock up . i have as yet never tried any thing with over head eletric pick up . and thought i would like to have a go . the baseboard was a failed start on a on30 coal type layout that i have now turned in to a chalk pit . so here is a few pics of how its leveling out i know GN 15 narrow gauge is getting popular with some people . and represent 15 in gauge but i would like to say mine is 18 in gauge so is that GN18 ime not sure . . as yet no over head catenray poles or wires have been sortted yet as ime still head scratch ing on that .
kevo
hi all the other evening i had a bit of a change in direction instead of the over head i did a quick mock up with bits from my scrap box to see what the battery electric loco would look like if it got converted to diesel so i may now stick with this the over head can all ways be tried at a later time . The kits and figures are from the excellent narrow minded railworks range .

kevo
A bit of progress to day started to blend in the top layer of the chalk cliff face . this will be then skimmed with a second layer of filler and when dry i shall use a chissel, to carve out a more flat look to merge with the bottom half . At the moment it all looks a bit bleek and un interesting .but hopefully soon it will all pull together . i have a good bit of work to do on the loco still to start to make it look half sensible .

kevo
Hi mike yes i have seen your 7mm NG Hookton layout excellent work the buildings and quay side are really good . yes GN 15 is a nice size to do its got a good chunky feel to it . its a shame that some of the suppliers of kits over the yrs have gone pepper 7 etc . hope you get some fun with building yours . here are a couple of pics of my old sand industry layout i built some years ago i sold it on wish i had kept it

kevo
Thanks for the coments mike it was a very simple layout just one point there was a hidden traverser in side the tipping shed . i built to locos for the layout or kit bashed some parts and used 132 scale skip chassis and scratch built two bigger skip buckets for them . kevo
Bit of a up date the upper layer of the chalk cliff had its second layer of filler skimmed over and left to dry out for a couple days this evening i started carve ing out some of the filler to get the effect i was after . its quite good fun to do . it even gives the look of a unfortunate cliff fall lucky there was no trains running at the time. T he middle bit has not yet dryed fully so i will leave that till tomrrow . i wil probly give the cliff face a very mild wash with a brown or black to bring out some shaddow ing and then add odd clumbs of folage the very top of the cliff face will have some grass on . .
kevo
Hi All well i havent really forged ahead much with this project it went through a few changes .🙄 gauges and scales have been swapping around as normal with me . 1st off GN15 narrow gauge even over head pick up was in the pipe line then on30 some running problems with locos kind of knocked the wind out of the whole project . any way . i have some o gauge bits ive had laying around and the other evening i placed my Dapol 08 and some bits of track on the layout two see what i could do and i quite liked what i saw so u could say as happend in the real world the narrow gauge track was removed and standard gauge replaced it so that is what is going to happen next if it works brilliant if not i can allways change again any way here are a few taster pics of the mock up . kevo
Hi to all , you can end up going round the bend and back again with ever change ing ideas and thoughts in this hobby . plans for this layout alone have done a few gauge scale changes thats for sure my plans to convert this layout to o standard gauge never got any where as i soon guessed that just two sideings would end up a bit boreing to operate . so as a stop gap i got stuck in to building another GN15 loco to run on it . i had a oo gauge Hornby dcc 08 sunter chassis kicking around and thought may be i can do something to fit on this as the 08's are really nice slow runners so here are a few pics of what i came up with . when i had finished building the cab and body it was primed in Halfords grey primer and coat of rust of different tones was painted on all over to varry the tone . then i used a chipping medium sprayed on with my air brush then a coat of light blue over top then patches of the chipping fluid was removed with water to the affect i wanted later some warning strippes were added and coats of a grimmey miix was blown over to blend it all together , i have added a stay alive to the decoder as there is plenty of rooom under the bonnet . it is one of the best running locos i have . hope you like it .
Nearholmer
That is excellent! What is this “chipping medium”? I’ve always used either ‘maskol’ or salt.
