RMweb Premium Compound2632 Posted April 5, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2022 Carthago delenda est. 1 hour ago, Nick Lawson said: I did a little bit of latin, but not enough to become Prime Minister sadly. However I do remember that "bus" is all we have retained of "omnibus" which is latin and means "for everyone". When I was a student, I had dinner in a hall with stained glass windows - probably coloured my outlook on life. One of them featured a prayer that ran something like: Benedicatio Deus qui operadi in omnibus* which we translated as: Blessed be God the Bus-Driver. *Contrary to the impression I may give, I have never had any formal training in Latin, so this being from ancient memory is, I am sure, riddled with grammatical errors. Kai is the only word of Greek I have ever been taught, by someone who was seeking to explain to me why so many sentences in the King James translation of the New Testament begin with the word And.
