RBAGE
Hello, I've had a Bachmann sound fitted class 24 for some considerable time. Catalogue number 32-425DS. I'm making modifications to remove the water tank and while I've got it in bits I thought I would fit a decent speaker. It has a 21 pin sound decoder fitted with the usual oval speaker and inadequate speaker housing. The speaker itself is rated 100 ohms. Am I correct in my understanding that a 100 ohm speaker is suitable for a version 3.5 decoder and that version 4 should have either 4 ohm or 8 ohm? If that's correct can anyone educate me about the time line for decoders. I thought 21 pin decoders were introduced at or after version 4 decoders became available so I had always assumed that if it's a 21 pin then it must be version 4 or younger. Dare I fit a 4 ohm speaker or will the decoder amplifier go supernova? Thanks, Bob
Hamburger
Richard is right. If you are still unsure, have a look here and compare visually: https://www.esu.eu/en/products/former-products/loksound-v35/ If you look closely at the photos you will discover the 21 holes for the 21mtc interface.
