BACHMANN EUROPE REVEAL NEW PRODUCTS FOR SUMMER 2022

Bachmann Europe Plc today delivered its second round of new product announcements for 2022 with the unveiling of its Summer 2022 British Railway Announcements. There are new identities aplenty from Bachmann Branchline and Graham Farish, many of which have been high on the list of consumer requests in recent times, whilst the Scenecraft range of handdecorated, fully finished buildings, structures and accessories also sees various new additions and the return of several popular items.

In N scale, further SOUND FITTED version of the Class 60 diesel locomotive have been added to the Graham Farish range now that the upgrades to this model, to allow for the fitting of a sound decoder and speaker, have been completed. Alongside these SOUND FITTED additions, a new model in DB Schenker, Army Red livery has been revealed. All the Graham Farish Class 60s now benefit from a pre-fitted speaker and Next18 DCC decoder socket, whilst SOUND FITTED models are fitted with a Zimo MX659N18 sound decoder. A Loadhaul Class 37 and InterCity Swallow-liveried Class 08 join the Graham Farish range, the latter also being offered with SOUND FITTED, whilst the accessory range has been boosted, most notably with the addition of various different types of wagon and coach bogies.

The first N scale Sales Area Exclusive models were also announced today; this initiative supports Bachmann’s valued network of retail stores and has seen various OO scale models released in recent years, each being available only from retailers in selected areas of the country. Expanding this initiative, the first Sales Area Exclusive models to be offered in N scale are four Class 37 diesel locomotives, each depicting locomotives never before modelled by Graham Farish.

The highly acclaimed Bachmann Branchline OO scale Class 90 is offered in three new liveries; EWS, Rail Express Systems and Freightliner G&W. All three colourful machines are available in standard or SOUND FITTED format and are fitted with a finely-rendered Pantograph which can be raised or lowered via the built-in servo motor when operated on DCC. The Freightliner G&W livery also adorns the Branchline Class 08 Diesel Shunter, with this model offered in Harry Needle Railroad Company Blue, and BR Blue liveries at the same time. With new versions of the Class 419 Motor Luggage Van (MLV) due this Summer, SOUND FITTED models were today unveiled marking the first time that a Bachmann Branchline Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) has been offered with this popular feature.

Following the celebrated arrival of the EFE Rail motorised London Underground 1938 stock earlier this year, a second model has been announced this time in Bus Red livery with white roundels and car numbers, as applied to units selected for a life-extending Extra Heavy Overhaul which was undertaken at the London Transport Works in Acton in the 1970s. The four-car model represents set number 136 working to Watford LMR. Both driving cars on the model are motorised, with a Plux22 DCC decoder socket in each, plus space for a sugar cube speaker to be fitted. Interior lighting is present in all four vehicles.

For OO9 scale, the ubiquitous Slate Wagons make a welcome return from Bachmann Narrow Gauge and these are joined by two new Narrow Gauge Corrugated Station buildings from Scenecraft. There are new models from Scenecraft in N and OO scale too, with the N scale Low Relief Industrial Unit and the OO scale Seaside Shelter just two of the highlights. For O scale, a new Site Office will prove useful for many applications.

The new items announced today are currently on course to arrive with retailers during the next three months and with some already in stock, distribution of these will begin next week.

Thank goodness there's nothing too much for me. Some nice announcements though. I do enjoy these quarterly announcements. I was quit surprised there's no Mk2f's to go with the spring DBSO's.

Nothing in the way of steam stuff which is a relief for the wallet

Fair to say it is more of a consolidation of the range this time, given the zero covid stuff happening in China ATM probably.

Hopefully the situation might be better in 3 months time and the next announcement bring a lot of new shiny things 😍

It's a lovely choice on the Res and EWS Class 90 liveries there!

I feel like I need to dig out my old Wells Green electric layout out and relive the teenage memories of bashing up Hornby models to get these kind of results, seems only fitting to add some of the new-generation to the collection here for old times sake!

Cheers,

James

Meh , nothing for me me again 😌

Not to worry. Its a quarterly announcement so not likely to be packed with loads of new models. Only 3 months to wait until the next one.

It gives you a chance to re-charge your bank account.

I wonder if we are seeing more diesel and electric locomotives at present because they are less labour intensive to put together, so better use of reduced manufacturing/labour capacity in China?

Clever if so.

They have presumably come across one somewhere but - being very much of Western heritage - I wonder who had any wooden lamp huts (and how long they lasted)?  Overall there is a very nice selection of buildngs etc in there but  the things on wheels, on either gauge of track, lie well outside my area of interest.

I've wondered the same thing. I believe it must be reflected in the marketing as much as economics. They do dominate the diesel market. Perhaps it's not surprising that with only so many production slots that the capacity is given over to diesels. I'm sure its a complex juggling act.

I continue to be surprised by the absence of maroon Thompsons. But like steam locos if there's only so much capacity then the business dictates that they'll produce what they  believe will return the most satisfactory profit.  In times like these we can't blame them for that.

I think I need some new glasses. I read that and kept wondering what a "soft inspection" coach was...

The wooden engine and goods sheds both look very nice. Not sure why the weighbridge gets the grass surround, though. It's a bit Hornby R9738.

Whilst mildly disappointed by the lack of Reggie Rail 117, "Penny Black" looks nice, the banger blue 08 means I can continue to avoid Hornby products for now, the Intercity inspection saloon will be a must have as I did have an official ride in the real thing complete with Class 58 cab ride (the only high point of my first lousy job) and the working Sprinter couplings will be an absolute Godsend allowing me to hook up the Realtrack 156 to the 158.

So, all told, a comfortable selection of items with some interesting re releases.

Can't say much about the rolling stock as they're not my area of modelling (although the MLV and those inspection saloons look rather lovely), but there are some gorgeous buildings there - not least the Seaside Shelter which I really like the look of (I can't imagine why...). Pricing aside, I can already visualise it (and quite a few of the other smaller buildings) on a future BRM diorama, and then perhaps stealing it for my next layout...

At the risk of attracting unwanted attention, in the midst of "nothing in it for me" posts, I think it's quite easy to overlook that we really are being spoilt for choice nowadays!

Is it just me, or are the prices of the Scenecraft items even more excessive?  The ones which have been reintroduced seem to cost a lot more than when they were in the range not that many years ago.  Some of the designs seem rather crude and despite their ready to plant nature, even the old Dapol kits, never mind the the various  options from the plastic, wood  or card model building specialists, all seem to offer much better value for money and are much easier to modify to create something unique.

I suspect you will find that many of those items will also be seeing price increases as all the suppliers to this hobby (and any other hobby, etc) deal with the cost increases in materials, shipping, and anything oil based.
