In N scale, further SOUND FITTED version of the Class 60 diesel locomotive have been added to the Graham Farish range now that the upgrades to this model, to allow for the fitting of a sound decoder and speaker, have been completed. Alongside these SOUND FITTED additions, a new model in DB Schenker, Army Red livery has been revealed. All the Graham Farish Class 60s now benefit from a pre-fitted speaker and Next18 DCC decoder socket, whilst SOUND FITTED models are fitted with a Zimo MX659N18 sound decoder. A Loadhaul Class 37 and InterCity Swallow-liveried Class 08 join the Graham Farish range, the latter also being offered with SOUND FITTED, whilst the accessory range has been boosted, most notably with the addition of various different types of wagon and coach bogies.

The first N scale Sales Area Exclusive models were also announced today; this initiative supports Bachmann’s valued network of retail stores and has seen various OO scale models released in recent years, each being available only from retailers in selected areas of the country. Expanding this initiative, the first Sales Area Exclusive models to be offered in N scale are four Class 37 diesel locomotives, each depicting locomotives never before modelled by Graham Farish.

Nice to see them using the regional exclusive idea to have more variety, I might have to get 37502 to accompany 37506.  Also great to see the B4/Commonwealth bogies sold on their own, I can bring my Mk1s into the late 80s/early 90s :-)

I didn't notice any new motive power or rolling stock announced (did I miss something?). And I didn't see any steam locos re-liveried/added sound. That probably won't got down well with the steamy brethren. But I'll admit I only skimmed through the listing and will have a more careful look later.

The selling bogies separately is welcome and should be good for stock bashers although some are already available cheaper from the NGS.

Totally agree! I've got a few needing swapping as well. The TF25 is useful for people building modern wagons too.

I'm sure I'll end up with a 60040, remember seeing it ex works at the Merehead open day and it suits my modelling period.

It does seem a shame however that the opportunity hasn't been taken to upgrade the lighting on the 60s while the chassis upgrade was being done, as this is one thing that shows the model's age. I'm tempted to add fibre optic to mine, to allow the marker light to illuminate with the headlight.

What's the price on the area exclusive 37's?  I do hope these are vanilla DCC ready and not fitted!  Also, is there a definitive list of what retailers fall into which area?  I am tempted by 37025...

Disappointing for the  steam or steam/diesel transition modeller with not a single loco or item of rolling stock announced be it new tool or re-run off of existing tooling. That said, good news to see the bogies being sold separately, they are always useful to have available.

I am not surprised, Summer is not traditionally the modelling season and were there to be a lower key quarter I guess this was going to be the one.

What I just do not get though is why there seems no urgency to add to the steam range, there has been absolutely nothing added since way before these quarterly announcements started and I am not meaning new tool, I mean anything, and with just three steam locos in the warehouse at Barwell currently  (all less desirable liveries) I would have hoped there would be more of a priority.

It is what it is I guess, hardly life or death in the grand scheme of things, but I have to say these quarterly "announcements" don't really work well as far as I am concerned, they only serve to demonstrate how little N is coming through more visibly, raising anticipation levels and then delivering disappointment.

It's great to see the sales area specific locos now being done in N, although I'd have gone for a wider range of liveries perhaps including some not done yet and early green with something post-privatisation (green full yellow ends, Intercity & ROG Phoenix perhaps?). The choice of 37502 for the southern area model is a little odd given it spent it's life in the North East. I'd have thought something allocated to a S or SW depot such as 37672 would have been more appropriate.

The bogies are a welcome addition - like others I can see myself upgrading a few coaches.

What's surprising is that there are no steam locos, no wagons and no coaches announced with these diesels.

Less surprising is the lack of anything new...

It has to be said Wales and Ireland really drew the short straw with the dullest 37 livery!!  Surely a Transrail Dutch would have been more appropriate, and colourful!

Dutch would suit the Anglia region more - it's closer to the Netherlands.

And a Steel 37 for the South - surely that should have been for the Welsh contingent.

At least there are four additional class 37 liveries to purchase, even if one of them is the ugliest blue 37 I've ever seen.

Personally I am just happy to see these sales rep editions reachinbg N Gauge at last, 502 and 025 will be on my list. Presumbly we will see a 47 follow when they bring out the new version.

Mildly curious as to why the East Riding of Yorks is in a separate Bachmann sales area to the North Riding  (And why a Highland 37 is relevant to the latter.)  But…opportunities for trading across the border between York and Hull!

Richard

(Still waiting for Bachman to shrink their V1/3 to N: such an obvious gap in the market, and no more difficult to do than a Standard tank.  I’ve given up on ever seeing the J72 or a re-tooled V2 in N.)

With tongue firmly in cheek...

I like these CKD coaches, bogies first! I take it the next instalment for the coaches will be coming next quarter in the form of a chsssis...or will we be taking the Hachette approach and get the roofs?

Peaks will be Rapido's next N gauge loco, or were the hints in one of their latest videos too obvious?!

If anyone is after a Farish loco you could try A Oakes. They have quite a good number of new Farish locos for sale both steam and diesel. I don’t have a list and they don’t have an online shop but they might well be worth a phone call if you are after anything. A few days ago they had two sound fitted 8Fs and also one in early logo BR livery along with a good number of other locos. They are a well established and reputable shop.

Certainly the grey 37 will give the repainters a good starting point given bare bodies are not going to happen.  The bogies are certainly a boost for coaches.  N soc gets my support for wagon bogies .  I do wonder if the dmu bogie could be added if Barwell are reading this.

37116 is great to see always amused me it lasted so long..

Lovett`s lamb made me laugh and good to see humour still available in N gauge.

i have just pre ordered general grey 37142.   it is drab, but i like it.

i hope Dapol will release a general grey 33.

i think the lack of any coaches or wagons (even just re-runs) is odd and is not helpful for those just entering the hobby. it must be frustrating to those trying to assemble a rake.

the coach bogies will be useful.

I may be one of the few people that’s extremely pleased that 37142 is being produced. It was my first ever one for haulage back in 1987 towing a failed HST from Exeter to Plymouth and back. I even chucked a few quid into its restoration down at Bodmin a few years ago.

Should look great once it’s had a bit of weathering done.

edit - I’m clearly not the only one @bluedepot!

We must be grateful for small mercies these days.......

Thanks to Richard & Co for listening to the many requests for bogies, especially Commonwealths and B4s. If he does monitor these posts, early liveries for the 100t tanks are needed for Christmas!

Is that price for the 'new' RTP resin fuel storage tank correct? At 5p short of £50 it look rather expensive for a small tank that looks about the size of a 4-wheel tank wagon. The art deco signal box is 5p short of £45.
