Micro Dioramas!

Recommended Posts

For years we’ve been saving particular sized off cuts from our baseboards because we just can’t bring ourselves to bin them! One particular range of offcuts is the circles that are a byproduct of our baseboards. Nobody can bring themselves to put them in the timber recycling bin as “they could be really useful”. As a result, we’ve got quite a lot! With no idea what to use them for…

Until a flash of inspiration hit! Daft o’clock in the morning and all of a sudden the idea of “Micro Dioramas” comes to mind. We have that many tiny detailing products in our range and it’s hard to showcase them all easily, all on the same layout. So why not take the 40mm offcuts and use them as baseboards. Each to showcase a select few products, showing how they look in context on a model.

Eureka! So we’ve had a play this week… I’ve done a couple, Stu (Stubby47) has done over half a dozen and even Tina’s got involved. And they’re really quite addictive.

They’ll be going on display next week in our showroom and of course coming with us to any exhibitions & shows we do. We have room to display 280 of them on the front of our showroom counter so it’ll be a while before we’ve filled the shelves, but it’s better than tossing completed prototypes in a drawer and forgetting about them. 👍

Here’s a few we’ve done so far. Tina made the neglected graveyard one, mixing OO and N gauge together really well. The N gauge railings work a treat. And she mastered the art of dry-brushing really quickly with the rusty railings. Much better than I can do.

Keep on shuntin’
