Dave,

Thought I recognised that shot... isn't the light there fantastic. Was there this time last year - staying near Pickering for a week. Loved it. This year - two weeks at home in Sussex.. not quite the same. Thanks for the comment though! Your shot's great !

LH&JC... same loco I snapped - the US one... My post's a bit futher back. Lovered the texture effect of the surface "weathering" on this one.

Here's a couple of the former Reseau Breton. The first is the former trackbed now a long distance footpath/cycleway. The Second is heavily photoshoped picture of the former station at Gouarec, both about 5km's from my house.

My abstract railway themed images for contribution to the thread, although the black and white was taken at the Guinness factory in Dublin, so is not technically a UK image. The other is the cab in the overflow car park at the Churnett Valley Railway taken in July.

Dublin's fine. In fact for this thread anywhere in the world in fine :) as long as it's railway related, and the photo's composition is 'out of the ordinary' :)

These were taken around 23-00 on a drizzly night at Ropley shed on the Mid Hants Railway. They are quite poignant for me as they were taken on my little point and shoot Sony after my last drive on 60019 Bittern before it left the MHR. Possibly my last ever drive of an A4 as well.

Some fantastic shots here - One thing does strike me though - where is the speed? On the moving train pictures everyone appears to have "stopped" the locos as if they aren't moving? Why? Has no one ever thought to drop the shutter speed and capture the motion?

You mean as in this shot ;) , see > http://www.dudleys-photos.co.uk/p67029823.html

Something like 1/60 or 1/80th second on the shutter speed and a corresponding aperture.

- regards,

Dudley

An empty Cl.444, heading for Bournemouth Depot, rushes through Christchurch as the clock approaches midnight.

Lots of great photos here, but this one seems special to me. Lots of interesting lines and shadows - and the sense of late night set off against the coloured streak from another world! Quite brilliant, I think.
