long island jack
the brick building in option 1 is an old Heljan brewery kit, every thing on helm was done on the cheap. if you have any more question please ask.
long island jack
"I WISH BOB AND TOM LIVED OVER HERE,THEY COULD TALK FOR ENGLAND" the only trouble with taking photo's of the layout is it shows all the unfinnished work thats still to do if i'm invited to TVNAM and not already booked i may consider it. long island jack
morning all (just) thanks very much for all the kind remarks it's much apreciated, it's nice that there are some people with the same tastes, in stead of the usual remarks at showsn "it's only an american layout" here's a couple more for you all still a bit more detail to do on loco's mu pipes etc, don't like to put to much small detail on them they only get broken of when your lifting them on and off track. RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted December 14, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 14, 2011 Now I know where undecorated Athearn models go to get painted! Very nice layout, wish I had more time to view when we were at Barrow In Furness rather than spending time on mine! Ian

F-UnitMad
Now I know where undecorated Athearn models go to get painted! I was thinking that I'd never realised Undecorated locos could be run quite prototypically on a layout..!!!
Prof Klyzlr
I was thinking that I'd never realised Undecorated locos could be run quite prototypically on a layout..!!! For those of us who fail miserably at painting, (as opposed to weathering), this gives a ray of hope... long island jack
morning all #4 on the morning shift, switching cars around the repair shops all buildings on helm are made from 2mm mdf with evergreen siding on top with wills brick sheets on the bottom, painted with cheap acrylic paint for my local craft shop, then a couple of thin washes of brown/black, pointing on bricks is a thin coat of tile grout left for a few minutes then wiped off,the rest of the weathering is just drybrushing. No chance of such comments here - you are definitely among friends on this Group!! " only an American layout"...!! The sheer cheek of it!! Such is the blinkered view of so many UK modellers, though.....

long island jack
bit to modern for me, most of helm's loco's around the period i'm modeling (88-93-ish) were sw1500, gp38/40's or sd40/45 and a few ge's. but the main reason for the model was i had a box full of athearn blue box loco's of "tomsville" a previous layout of mine,i know the blue box hasn't got as much detail as some of the new stuff out there now but less you can break off. same goes for freight cars there's some stunning cars out there now, with a lot more detail to damage, if you put an exactrail boxcar among my blue box it stands out like a sore thumb. but at an exhibition all the punters are 3-4 feet away so you will not see all that finer detail.its the illusion i'm trying to create, so if it looks ok from 4 foot it does me . RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted December 15, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 15, 2011 Most of my locos are Athearn Blue Box ones, including the two in the photos at WIldwood. Enjoyed adding the details to these locos and I still have the metal handrails which stand up to handling far more than the more recent plastic ones.
