37114
Best bet is to ask on wnxx as the curator from the museum is on there and is pretty good at answering questions. The NRM have been pretty good over the last few years getting locos repaired but with the help of external groups (eg 55002, prototype HST) so its all possible. Bert Cheese
IIRC D1023 was examined in the museum workshop relating to ongoing transmission problems, whether this is one or both units I forget. When the Voith unit(s) were stripped down it was discovered that the cost of rectification could not be justified at present (Think D1015!) and the loco was boxed up for return to static display. Perhaps when more funding is available things might change, at present such news is hardly surprising I suppose?
gresh
It was found that there is major bearing wear with one of the voith transmissions, with repairs only able to be done in Germany due to the nature of them, As stated above funds for this have been been used elsewhere, notably with the 'back to mainline' work done to Flying Scotsman. This has turned out to be more expensive and time consuming than first thought. This has been NRM's main concern and project of late. Major frame damage was found after her recent overhaul and has meant a total stripdown.repair and rebuild with work ongoing. D1023 has for the meantime been put on the back burner
