47606odin
If you want finer chain link fencing, you can buy the fine netting from a haberdashery shop that is used in clothes. I have used it in Hither green, but the only thing Is, the mesh is hexagonal rather than square because of how the threads are twisted together, but, this is not really visible on the layout. 8 1 1
HSB
That certainly looks very effective. I assume those are laser-cut posts?

It is called "dressmakers' tulle". I bought an offcut to make the nets for some 00 gauge TPOs. 1
HSB
Earlier this week I started adding some greenery around the new fence. Today a couple of our rambling friends Tony and Dave who are also railway modellers came along to see the progress we have made since they last visited. Here are some of my pics - no doubt Rod will be adding more later.
HSB
The greenery along the verge next to the new fence is now more-or-less complete.

railwayrod
Howard and I were joined this afternoon by our friend Peter Martin who dropped in with his new Dapol rail car. He wanted to give it a run so Ramchester had another "out of area" visitor. It must have taken the wrong turnout on whatever journey it was scheduled to take but somehow ended up on the line to Ramchester - way beyond where the prototype would have ventured. This is the sound fitted version and I must say that the sound effects were very good indeed so much so that had it been a vehicle that traveled this far north I might have been tempted. Anyway here are a couple of photos of the unit in the station area. As Howard indicated in an earlier post about a fortnight ago two visitors (both railway modelers) and fellow members of Torbay Rambling Club came to have a look at what we had done during last years lock down. I took some pictures of the day and attach here just a few. 4F no 44362 stands in Platform 1 awaiting to depart with a local train. Earlier in the day the overnight parcels and newspaper train arrived in the charge of a type 1 Bo-Bo diesel which having run round its train prepares to move it into the bay platform for unloading. After all this hard work we rested and enjoyed a light lunch prepared by my wife Maggie. From left to right is Howard Brooking, David Mead and Tony Warner. More soon. pwr
That Railcar looks good on Ramchester Rod. Are you sure you cant find room for one - Rule 1 applies! Paul R
railwayrod
Hi Paul. Yes the railcar did look good and it performed beautifully. Now if Dapol were to introduce a railcar which was more at home on ex LNWR/LMS metals then I would treat myself. In the meantime I hope to add a couple more Dapol Mk 1's and a short ER train for the cross Pennine services and I could do with an ex LMS 2-6-2 or 2-6-4 tank loco and of course the awaited Black 5 from Ellis Clarke may well find its way onto the Ramchester roster. As usual the problem is finding the finance for all these goodies but having brought my wife a new car and a new washing machine during last year finances have become a little tight. Added to this my central heating boiler finally gave up the ghost a week ago (in all that cold weather) and needed a new replacement. Ah well it means that for the moment I will have to be content with playing with my present stock! Rod

RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted February 10, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 10, 2022 A very fine time was had visiting Ramchester today. I was allowed to drive for a session, albeit in a very inept way with SPADS and movements in the wrong direction....! Me and DCC (with sound) aren't particularly good bedfellows! Anyway having 'entertained' the fellow visitors it was all very enjoyable.
HSB
As you will have gathered from what John said in the previous post we had visitors to Ramchester today for a very pleasant operating session. Here are some of my photos:-

RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted February 15, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 15, 2022 Love that sound. Takes me back to trainspotting in Nottinghamshire in the 1970's. Cheers, Ade.
HSB
We had a visit from our non-modelling friend Keith today who had asked to see the layout. Following 47606odin's post a few weeks ago we (or rather Rod's wife Maggie) were able to track down some silvery grey coloured tulle on line for the fencing around the oil depot. For the posts we have had some 3D printed by Chris Ward and they are now on their way.
HSB
I noticed a few days ago that we had a couple of Skytrex wagons which haven't yet had their brake gear upgraded or been weathered so I have been working on this ex-LMS van:-
HSB
Since Rod got his first Lionheart Mk1 coaches I have repatriated my reworked LIMAs and have been wondering how they would cope with the 4' radius curves on Brückenheim. I have now tried them out and am happy to report they go around with no problem. The buffers are pushed right in but they should really be retracted anyway - something I may look at in the future. Anyway, it does mean I can give them a run occasionally. Edited March 3, 2022 by HSB
railwayrod
It seems quite a while since I posted something on this thread so here goes. In Howard's post a week or so ago he showed his expertise when he re-worked an older Skytrex LMS van. I am really pleased with this and the improvements that he has made are beyond belief. I have included my own photograph here for you to share once again. During the last week or so Ramchester has acquired a little bit more rolling stock. I felt that I was short of open wagons and as a result I splashed out on a Minerva ex GWR version. I know that I am a keen LMS man but open wagons in the early 60's tended to travel everywhere so I did not need to make any excuses for this purchase. Anyway it is an excellent model and as soon as I have fitted TL couplings and it receives Howard's weathering touch it will enter service on the layout. I have included a picture below. My next purchase was two more Lionheart Mk 1's - a SO and a Ck. These supplement my existing three Lionheart coaches to make up a 5 coach rake. Again these models are excellent and are DCC fitted so now I have my first lighted train. The picture below show Ramchester's pilot engine pushing the complete train into the platform ready for the London service. It would be nice if I could increase the length of this train to 6 or even 7 coaches and Ramchester's platform is long enough to accommodate this but it would cause some challenges in the fiddle yard on the opposite side of the shed. Another bit of news is that I have just commissioned from Chris Ward 100 3D printed fence posts measured from the prototype. These will form the basis of a lot of chain link fencing surrounding the oil and chemical area that we are working on. More of this soon. HSB
One thing I became aware of when modifying the Skytrex van was that they had used the ends from their BR Vanfit which, although very similar, have slightly differently dimensioned vents although it was the chalking boards which really gave the game away! None of the pictures or drawings I looked at showed them on the LMS vans.
HSB
This week I have begun working on the fenceposts and so far I fitted brass wire into the holes in the bases of 16 of them and have scratch-built one of the end posts from plastic strip. Today I gave these a first coat of acrylic paint. Below are a couple of the pictures of real posts I am using for reference. And here's shot of the model versions after their first coat of paint:- Edited March 31, 2022 by HSB Original photos not showing
HSB
Great to have RMWeb up and running again even if all our photos have disappeared! Here are a couple of shots from a running session with some friends Rod invited round on Monday. Pete Martin brought his Minerva 'Teddy Bear' for a run.
gismorail
Lovely to see Ramchester up and running again 😀 but a great shame about the pictures. The Teddy Bear looks good a very tempting model I have to confess
