Latest addition to the fleet is 'Pedro The Pacer' German two car DMU based on Roco model. the CP/Renfe versions were single ended and connected unlike German ones that were essentially two single cars. Conversion done on model in Portugal by guys who has end moulds done. He doesn't sell them but sells you he conversion work if you supply unit?! Sound is easy, Loksound DB download and add squeaky horn.

Hi Ian

I will ask Andrew Donnelly who owns the unit this week (he is back from Lisbon) and get details

S

Thank you - I go through Lisbon around 6 times a year for work, so local contact details would be fine. Obrigado & Cumprimentos.

More stock taking shape. The Corails are lovely but we are building an ETH van to run with them. The Bombardier 1965 is sound fitted Norbrass model (ouch!!) 1412 is sound fitted Sud Express model and will become 1411. The cement bag wraps are castings with transfers on and individually wrapped in cling film as per prototype. Cement flat is Roco, the cement tankers Sud Express. Track is now taped in place and finalised. Should add that the the 'diorama' is not the Portuguese layout but my American outline switching layout.

It's unlikely but vaguely possible that someone might be interested in my "oh no not another depot layout" with a twist. This is 4ft x 11inches including a hidden sector plate of 13 inches, and was built as a short stop gap I have knocked up over a couple of weekends to get something running, my aim is for a larger terminus layout (which will butt onto this) but for now this allows me to run my locos. The larger terminus will need to incorporate tram trackage as I have a number of Lisbon trams, and also a faller bus roadway. It'll probably need to be wired up unless I can find a plausible excuse for a diesel line around the Alcantara area of Lisbon (fits with the trams).

And yes, a-bus-on-scenic-break-bridge cliche!

I've a tip for those modelling European - look very closely at the watercolour cityscapes sold in tourist shops - Lisbon abounds with these - and you may find the components for a backscene. This one has made it umistakeably Portugal, there are bits of Sintra and Porto in there for the observant.

There's lots of work to do on this one (touch up white bits) and you will see the glue's still drying in a couple of spots. It has interchangeable road vehicles and stock to model 80's 90's or noughties.  The stock is Mabar, Arlo Micromodel, Sudexpress, there is an old American Alco which approximates to a 1500 class, which cost me 15 quid and a can of paint, and I am waiting for the transfers to do the nose stripes.  The loco shed is a quick repaint of the Hornby european one, and hopefully behind this will be enough space for a railbus or light engine to hide, for a through-run at the back. The front end of the DMU seen there is another cheap knock-up - an old Fleischmann 2-car that has had some corrugated silver inox added and been painted in a scheme used on DMUs.

Better one of the back scene - this main section was a 12 Euro watercolour and a couple of 1 euro postcards...

Also a timeshift forwards.... lots of accidents at the depot it seems....

(have been actively seeking Portuguese road vehicles for almost 5 years, and still amounts to 2 coaches, 1 bus, a postal van, 2 ambulances and a fire van....).

Liking this Ian! Just one issue....that hideous RENFE DMU.........(lovely model I admit that it is)!!  :nono: Banned completely from Campo De Leste by the 'living in Portugal' contingent.....(they depress them too much)

Agree Ian that Portugal specific vehicles are a nightmare. We have gone for generic southern european tat-metal Fiats/SEATs/Renualts etc and have just one specific. A Portuguese Police FIAT/SEAT Strada.(and the obligatory 'hearing aid beige' Mercedes 190D taxi!!)

I know the Renfe units are horrible especially having ridden on one last week, but the Electrotren model is great and all there is unit wise. Managed to find a guy in Spain selling unpainted bodies for the single ended ferrobus, will wait and see what they are like and will post pics once they arrive. For the chassis I also managed to find a cheap roco one on eBay and got the decals from jgmodelismo.

Now for board two.... Suddenly inspired by the modelling potential of Porto Sao bento... Hardly any points, surrounded by cuttings, and tracks disappear straight into tunnels...

This looks great, Ian. Any chance of a plan or an overall shot please?

Thanks

We now have a forum in Portuguese!! Andrew showing off his multilingual skills, he speaks Portuguese and very basic and archaic form of English known a 'Geordie'. What you can see here though is that the track is essentially laid and I have to get busy soldering droppers in the next few weeks. http://www.portugalferroviario.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=5569

In the meantime here is some orange Porn!

I recently came across this brand of model vehicles that I´d never heard of.

http://www.norev.com/index.php?content=catalogueok&marque=0&modele=252&echelle=1%2F87e&categorie=0&valid=yes&lang=fr&okm=Go

There aren´t any Prortuguese specific vehicles but a fair few southern Mediterranean examples to choose from.

And an image of the area between Oporto Sao Bento and the main line at Campanha just in case it inspires anyone..

Just in case you thought we had gone to sleep! Droppers are now soldered on and the bonus ball was that at Perth Show we bought a pile of 'new' Lenz gear, point modules, power units etc etc at half price from the nice chap at Cheltenham Model Centre. Also a quick visit to The Model Tree Shop means we have a selection of palm trees, aloes, Eucalyptus, Orange trees etc etc. The master building builder is away with the primary structures for fettling.

More inspirational photos of our 'prototype' a disused line/station east of Evora near the Spanish border called  Reguengos De Monsarraz...of course we will do more weedkilling and the like>!!

I keep coming back to these rather lovely concrete Art Deco lamposts! Were they a standard railway design?
