RMweb Gold Popular Post gwrrob Posted April 16, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 16, 2013 (edited) Here's an example of a simple kit built building sat unassuming on my layout but fits in well all the same.Built from the Wills kit and bedded in using the Treemendus earth scatter mentioned earlier. The grass embankment is going to have a revamp using Green Scene foliage mats and static grass through my Noch puffer bottle.More adventurous modellers would have had the doors open and a detailed interior but hey ho.Even with the nice Scaledale buildings available and I do have some, but its still good to build a kit or two to give a bit of individual charm. john flann
A nice example of understatement, Rob. I like it, and have pressed the appropriate button!
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted April 17, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) I'd thought I show you my buildings on Station Road. This is an eclectic mix of scratchbuilt and yes, the afore mentioned Scaledale terrace houses. All detailed to some extent including the gardens. The rooves will be tidied up when I'm totally finished and they are secure on their bases.I'm not quite sure how I'll do that yet.The wall in the foreground is by Townstreet and are plaster castings.Lovely to paint. The trackwork is actually my fiddle/storage yard ! All being well I'm going to revamp the scenics on this section at the weekend after all it is Spring. There's no washing out though.Just as well it might get soot on it. !The last photo shows the fronts of the terrace houses all with different colour front doors painted. RMweb Premium Neal Ball Posted April 18, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 18, 2013 Robin - again - you put us to shame! I haven't even thought of "dressing' the fiddle yard - let alone, giving it a make-over for Spring!! My thoughts are more along the lines, "how can I get more track / yards down in the available space!!
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted April 20, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 20, 2013 Well the shed foreman got the shock of his life this morning when he turned up for work at Tigley Junction shed.A celebrity was in town.3440 City class 'City of Truro' Another 'wow' model from Bachmann I had to have.I wonder what turns we'll see her on this weekend.
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted April 20, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 20, 2013 Well you didn't have long to find the answer as a double header thunders under the overbridge with 3440 leading 92220 on a preserved excursion to Plymouth.57 years seperate these two iconic Western locos but aren't we lucky to have them both still today. 17
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted April 20, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 20, 2013 (edited) Well 3440 has returned a bit later light engine and picks up a single coach for a trip out in South Devon. She will return later as she's due a trip down the branch to Kingsbridge. The last photo shows the rear of the houses from my fiddle yard. Gruffalo
I have previously written on John Flann's thread how inspirational his work is and yours is similar. Thanks for setting me a target (even if I know my own limitations will prevent my reaching such heights), another layout to which I can aspire! RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted April 20, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 20, 2013 3440 was turned at Laira and returns to take the coach down the branch.
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted April 20, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 20, 2013 Thanks Rob. That's a real treat and has cheered me up after another poor result. RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted April 21, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 21, 2013 An early morning freight turn returns to the fiddle yard as the photographer catches 87xx class pannier tank 3796 and a few wagons passing the backs of the Station Road houses. 18
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted April 21, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 21, 2013 (edited) At the end of the row of various houses stands a corner shop come general stores owned by proprietor Joseph Auld. Here we see George and Mary Rouncewell at cross purposes shopping.George has his head in his racing paper, studying the form but he never has a winner.Mary's thoughts are on today's dinner and something in the shop window has caught her eye.Maybe its the freshly made pasties with correct side crimping for this part of the world. This is the Townstreet shop made a few years ago now and a joy to build, paint and adorn with enamel type signs of yesteryear. The interior with lighting has the Langley grocers shop castings used to great effect. RMweb Gold 46444 Posted April 21, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 21, 2013 Evening Robin, Nice photos as ever. Really like the shots of CoT. Regarding the shots of 3769 on post 269 tell me about the hedging. Looks like the effect I want to achieve with JH. Cheers, Mark
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted April 21, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 21, 2013 tell me about the hedging. Looks like the effect I want to achieve with JH. Cheers, Mark Evening Mark. That hedging was done very easily using rubberised horsehair cut to size and then soaked in diluted pva/water. Then sprinkle your favourite scatter over it in a mix of colours .You might need to to this a couple of times.Use neat pva to fix it to layout. Talking of the scenics,I'm putting together a demo on how I did the embankments as I'm redoing the far end where I used the usual scatter mix way as opposed to using meadow scenic mats and static grass which is all the rage nowadays.I won't be using a Grassmaster either ! http://www.green-scene.co.uk/Accessories.html

RMweb Gold Popular Post gwrrob Posted April 22, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 22, 2013 After all the celebrity loco action at the weekend its back to the bread and butter for a Monday. Here's small prairie 4540 with a cattle van train followed later on a b set turn on the down mainline for a change.
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted April 23, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 23, 2013 Another couple of shots shewing the Skaledale houses I've used and a side on view of the gardens I've created. These buildings are treated by Hornby as limited editions in the sense the moulds don't last long for many runs.I couldn't even tell you the name of the nearest cottage as its now a few years since purchase.

RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted April 24, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 24, 2013 (edited) Those houses 'come to life' with the additional work around them. Looks really good. P Yes worthwhile and relatively easy to do too.Another batch of Bachmann at their best loco shots shewing 3440 and 92220 in scenic settings. Those with eagle eyes may notice the new platform stones for my plants carved out of das clay. RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted April 24, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 24, 2013 (edited) Hi Rob You have got to bit the biscuit and put some crew on CoT stick them in with "Tacky Wax" then you won't harm the loco. 81C Yes I know but what period crew shall I get ? The usual Falcon range I'd use don't seem appropriate for this loco some how.I'm not bothered about harming it as its weathered so its limited edtion value has gone out the window.
