Thanks for the Manor pictures Rob. Lovely stuff!

That tank lid is nice touch... and it looks like the  damper and drain cock levers in the cab are separate too. Also with the metal boiler it will be interesting to see what it will pull.

Do you happen to know where the chip will live?

Thanks to Paul Isles @Islesy accommodating self we managed to grab a few photos ,[ Chris] of the Accurascale Manor before it was whisked away to Hornby Magazine. Delivery is now expected in the summer '22 now. I'll be interested in seeing their take on GWR green when the decorated samples surface.

Almost looks like it's in GWR 'photographic grey'.

Have you or anyone you know had an accident ?

Seems the station gets quite full of potential claims towards the end !

Just out of interest does anyone recognise the location ?

Avebury is Cheltenham Leckhampton (the signal box was still called Cheltenham South & Leckhampton) , Beaton is Andoversford and Beaton Signal Box is Andoversford Station Signal Box. the tunnel is Andoversford Tunnel, and the engine shed is Cheltenham Malvern Road.

Thank you Mike much appreciated.

And I think there was a glimpse of Lansdown Jn box as the breakdown train set off.

Nice view of round rodding (rather than the later square channel rodding) and state of the embankments back then.

Paul.

Couldn't stop laughing at the scenes of the 'passenger' actors all with their various bandages.  Looked like a bunch of kids playing hospitals.  But a great little film with some nice GWR infrastructure, albeit no nice GWR locos or stock.  I guess the standard types shown reflected the corporate image BR wanted to put across back in 1958.

I suspect the idea of using Standards was to avoid any sort of immediately obvious Regional identity for the trains, especially the one that came to grief.  The infrastructure was very obviously Western but it wasn't necessarily being blamed for the derailment.  if it had been a Western engine on the train that derailed that bit would have met with hoots of laughter and jeers in some quarters elsewhere on the railway and strong denials at Swindon and Paddington along the lines of 'our engines don't do that'.  So you can bet the WR made sure that none of its designs appeared in the film even if that was already intended by thsoe who put the whole thing together.

As an instructional film - which is of course what it was - it seems to have been very well done and definitely way ahead of the later film from BTF about Single Line Working which had to be partially re-shot after the initial showing to those who had taken part in it resulted in lots of laughter at the errors that the script had forced on them.

I wasn't going to, having thought they were not much in evidence in south Devon before the war.  But I now note that 4109 and 4117 were at NA in 1938 (Beck & Copsey) so I might be tempted.  Good to hear that they've modified the gearing since the mogul.

It will be interesting to see how this one turns out.  I went for the Hornby version which has needed some perseverance to get it to run correctly but it is now running well.

The one I am interested in from Dapol is the second run of 2-6-0s.

I see photos have finally surfaced of the forthcoming prairie from Dapol. Still undecided whether I want one of these. Any thoughts ?

Looks quite good to me but what do I know? I'd go for the BR 61XX version if I decided one was required.

Hmm - you had me doing some research on gwr.org this afternoon Robin, and thinking about spending money.  I reckon that if I wanted to represent 4117 in late 1930s condition I'd need one with a short safety valve cover but no bunker side steps, which just leaves 5150 as a possibility. Then I'd need to remove the tank top lubricators, paint the s/v cover green, get rid of the G W R in favour of the monogram, and renumber.  Might have a look at the Hornby versions again before committing.

Thanks for sharing this Robin. It's one I've been keeping an eye on as I'd like to model St Blazey's 5158 in 1947 condition. I was hoping to use the model of 5150 you've shewn as the base, but I understand that this batch were built with tall safety valve bonnets rather than the short one modelled. But maybe bonnets were swapped around in service?

It also has the route/power disc in the wrong place - I did point this out on Dapol's forum previously. Maybe the photo is of a pre-production sample and not the final real deal?

More positively, the green looks decent to me, and a nice rendition of the 'G W R' which some manufacturers don't seem to get quite right to my eye at least (eg our Danish friends)
