that the line from Wellington to the terminal. It’s just over 2 miles long!

some from today, same train again but back from Carlisle this time

Wasn't the Donnington branch originally the GWR from Wellington to Stafford?

It was, annoyingly the train passes the old junction to Wellington just north of Stafford station which is 12 miles from the block ends in Donnington but it has to go about 60 miles via crewe and shrewsbury to get there

Ah so the photo of the single line with the tree across it wasn’t at Landor Street but at the Donnington terminal?

yes, sorry should have explained it better, didn’t help that I didn’t post any pics of Donnington!

It was only a little branch so I managed to snap it off, I probably could have driven through it slowly but thought it best to stop and have a go at moving it

Some Canadian drivers in more remote areas carry chain saws and also rifles in case of bears. On one iron ore line where they are single manned they are encouraged to stop and take a nap if they feel too tired.

The footplate crew on one of the Romanian forestry lines also carried a chain saw.

- for refuelling!

I don't remember anyone carrying a rifle.

That sounds like they have to carry the chain saw as a close-combat weapon in case the rifle fails ;) hardy sorts those Canadian railmen!

That bear looks incredibly casual in that photo, all it's missing is a cup of tea in that paw...

Down to Worcester, then reverse and back via Bromsgrove.  The link may be time limited.

Seems a strange route to take, unless the driver, jim tippin, fancied a thrash up the lickey with the Crompton!

you don’t have to touch new st if you go the way I was booked, Kidderminster-smethwick-soho-Perry Barr-bescot-walsall-Sutton park

I’ll ask the driver next time I see him

Looks like it went via the Kings Heath line from Kings Norton via Lifford East and Bordesley to regain the Midland route north at Landore St/Saltley.
