Thankfully, no longer a part of my job 😂

Typical of our control leaving it to the last minute to inform the poor guard as she was getting some stick from the punters. I believe it was expressed due to the late inward driver from Crewe. I’m assuming you work for WMT? And if so what are they like to work for if you don’t mind me asking? I start as a Trainee with them in August so it would be great to hear from a current employee! Apologies for slightly hijacking the thread also Big Jim!

RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted July 17, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 17, 2022 Some from today, possession near nuneaton Relieved the driver on the first train on site before i realised I was on the wrong train thanks to a diagram error, so I had to have a walk to the other train a mile away! walked past the old chivers Colton station on the outskirts of nuneaton found a complete dashboard from a Renault 19 on the lineside (thanks Twitter for the clarification!) And onto my train And back to Bermuda park while the train was unloaded who knows what’s going to happen tomorrow
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted July 18, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 18, 2022 Short job today after the first bit was cancelled because of the heat should have gone to banbury but the other driver offered to bring it to tyseley for me which I couldn’t refuse Empty wagons into the newly laid roads in small heath, they would normally be going to and from Hindlow but that’s closed this week while they relay the groundframe and sidings into Hillhead quarry on the Hindlow branch! Amazing to think that only about 6 months ago you could only have one train at a time into Caledonia yard in small heath, today there were 4 trains in there at once! We then went light loco to bescot but a points failure at castle Bromwich meant we had to go into the platform at water orton to change ends to go around the opposite side of the triangle Into bescot 66303 rail riders 2020 on a bulk ballast train Tomorrow cancelled too so just showing someone round bescot early doors before it gets too warm!
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted July 20, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 20, 2022 (edited) Last day of work today before a few days away in cumbria, original job cancelled so got asked to conduct a driver from water orton to bescot and back, easier for me to get on in nuneaton though crewe, unusually there local to Manchester was in platform 5 as 1 was closed due to an issue with the roof following yesterdays heat platform 6 was also closed as the platform surface had risen up like a skateboard ramp, lifted about 12 inches i recon, couldn’t get a decent pic though 153 on the local to shrewsbury Away to nuneaton where one of our 47s came through as 1Z99 heading to Leicester And in came my train Into bescot and stabled the wagons Then light loco back to water orton where I was supposed to get a taxi to landor st to work a train from there to East Midlands gateway but it never turned up Light loco heading to bescot Luckily the driver I was relieving signed water orton so he bought the train down to me before getting in a taxi back to westbury! Into east midland gateway, run round and stabled, good timing with the plane coming into land Lone Ranger and Tonto surveying the landscape And looking down on the yard from the taxi That’s me done now, ready for a few days off Edited July 20, 2022 by big jim

BeRTIe Could be related to it but the hub and bearing itself is fine, nice and tight, all bolts present etc I totally lost power on the M6, had to be rescued by a recovery truck, happened at 21:30 and got home at 02:30 but had to be up at 06:00 so was knackered today seems like an electrical problem, possibly sensor related but having had the hub off again today the ABS sensor looks no different to when we refitted it on Saturday, hopefully something simple as I do quite like this car and don’t really want to scrap it!

BeRTIe one thing I did do was put that ring you straightened up on the wrong way round, we had it flush to the drive shaft but it should have been facing outward as a shield, given it was pretty mashed up I’m wondering if the sharp edge has gouged a wire of something, I’ll find out tomorrow hopefully, otherwise it’s the far less economical mini back to the ‘van on Saturday!
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted July 26, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 26, 2022 Just a few from this morning, hereford to dee marsh, should have took it back to wrexham but the other driver came to deeside to relieve me, a nice result! hereford, GWR 830 about to set off for london My train Into dee marsh, first time I’ve ever been in the yard, worked trains past it for 20 years but only just signed off the yard itself! pushed the loaded train into the arrivals line then took the loco into the headhunt light loco Then into the yard to pick up the outbound wagons, they will be propelled into the headshunt from there before drawing forward and heading off south strike day tomorrow but I’ve got an East Midlands gateway job
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted July 27, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 27, 2022 Crewe to East Midlands gateway today, as it was a strike day it had to keep to mainlines avoiding the boxes rhat we’re shut so it went via crewe station and nuneaton rather than via basford hall and alrewas crewe Running round in castle donington and run round again in the gateway from there I took it to castle Donington again, run round and stabled it until tomorrow, off to a hotel tonight and then light loco toton to small heath tomorrow and unload a train there
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted July 28, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 28, 2022 Started today with a trip from toton to small heath couple of 60s shunting around toton My loco to small heath the 60 still shunting around couple of 66s passing After getting into small heath I swapped locos Banbury train and a chiltern loco hauled passing by We had a dead loco from small heath that we had to leave on the rear of the train on departure so when we ran round in tyseley it was still dead behind the working loco worked it to landor st where we got off and it passed us with the new driver en route to peak forest job cancelled tomorrow so just a short crewe to walsall cover job, no doubt I’ll end up with something else too
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted July 31, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 31, 2022 Forgot to post Fridays pics, also some from Saturday friday, my job was cancelled so got asked to do a crewe to walsall cement job, then got asked to do a landor st to crewe turn so I worked the first train to landor st instead crewe Landor st HST passing by and the other train back, prostate cancer uk livery loco, first time I’ve had this one And into crewe, trainer couldn’t even stop it in a decent place for a picture! And Saturday was a nice short bescot to crewe job, stopped at costa on the way in, locked my bike tk the railings as ‘it won’t be in the way of anything there’ shortly afterwards the fire alarm went off and 2 fire engines arrived! Bescot has a new shunter, 97800, goIng to have to have a go of that one!
